Ideally I want something hearty and warm to fill everyone's stomach. My family tends to wake up early, so finding a restaurant that opens early is pretty important for us. This time, passing by near Gangneung Station, I happened to find a solid Gangneung restaurant that opens bright and early.

Where is Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You, and how far from Gangneung Station?

The place we visited was Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You, near Gangneung Station. It sits right across from Exit 3, so it's easy to stop by before catching a train.

Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You opens every day at 7am, which felt perfect for anyone needing a hangover breakfast early in the morning. Being near the station made it super easy to find, and the surrounding area was nice and quiet too.

Is Pick Up To You really a gukbap restaurant, or a cafe?

When I first saw the exterior of Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You, I almost walked past it thinking it was just a pretty independent café. The clean, bright glass storefront totally breaks the usual gukbap restaurant stereotype.

Step inside and warm lighting with neatly arranged, tidy tables greets you. The tables and utensil holders are kept so clean that it puts me at ease eating there with my kid.

We ordered a good spread — the restaurant's signature popular dish, Hongcheon Hanwoo Sagol Gomtang, along with the hearty sagol sundubu, and the Gangwon Handon hand-cut pork cutlet. Since it's simmered from 100% Korean beef ox bones, the broth was milky, clear, and honestly deeply flavorful.

We ordered the sagol sundubu with the meat option, so it came with both soft tofu and meat together.

The sagol sundubu was as milky white as, well, milk.

Taking a spoonful, there was no gamy smell at all — just a savory, deeply comforting flavor filling my mouth. It was packed with tender meat, and mixing it with rice and a piece of kkakdugi on top was absolutely delicious. As befits a well-known Gangneung restaurant, you can really taste the clean yet deep hand-made flavor.

The Hongcheon Hanwoo Sagol Gomtang was the dish the kids really enjoyed eating.

There was a generous amount of meat, and the texture was tender, making it just right for the kids to eat.

And then the Gangwon Handon hand-cut pork cutlet — the dish kids inevitably order no matter what. Made with Gangwon Handon pork, I secretly tried a few pieces before the kids noticed, and honestly, I wanted to eat the whole thing myself.

Every family member picked the dish they liked and we all had a full, satisfying breakfast. Having tried it firsthand, this is now on my must-revisit list of Gangneung restaurants for our next trip.
