Dog-friendly Ganghwa duck restaurant with paddy views: Deok Ori
In short
Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck restaurant on Mani-san-ro in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon, where the duck is first seared over briquette charcoal. Arriving right at opening with my parents and our dog Bori, we ordered duck jumulleok (stir-fried duck), potato pancake and finishing fried rice, and my parents especially liked the lightly seasoned side dishes made with Ganghwa-grown sweet potatoes and wild greens. Dogs are welcome indoors in a carrier or bag and the private lot out front is large, so Deok Ori Jumulleok slots easily into a day of sightseeing around Ganghwa.

On a weekend trip to Ganghwa with my parents and our dog Bori, we stopped for lunch at Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch, a well-known spot near Mani-san. I'd come here with friends before and loved it, so this time I brought my parents — and once again, it hit the spot for everyone! Great to pair with riding the Ganghwa Luge and hiking around Mani-san.

What is Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch?
A craftsman who's run duck restaurants for decades makes a special sauce here, tossing it with same-day slaughtered fresh duck, then giving it a first grill over charcoal briquettes for a subtle smoky flavor. That's the signature of this Ganghwa restaurant near Jeondeungsa.
The charcoal-grilled duck jumulleok comes with mild, neatly made homemade side dishes using sweet potatoes and vegetables grown right in Ganghwa — I think that's part of why my parents liked it so much.
It's located about 10 minutes from Ganghwa's famous attractions — the Ganghwa Luge, Mani-san, Dongmak Beach, and Jeondeungsa Temple — and there's a spacious dedicated parking lot in front, so it fit perfectly into our sightseeing route! Being able to bring our dog indoors with a carrier or bag was the cherry on top.

Arriving at opening: outdoor waiting seats with a rice-paddy view
We got there right at opening and waited outside while they prepped — the view of the rice paddies in front was such a healing spot!

Deok Ori Jumulleok is a genuine Ganghwa favorite that's even been on TV.

Deok Ori Jumulleok's menu and prices
- Duck jumulleok: same-day slaughtered fresh duck tossed in a special sauce, aged for a day, then given a first grill over charcoal for deep smoky flavor
- Samchae duck jumulleok: enhanced with samchae (three-flavor herb) for extra depth
- Shrimp duck jumulleok: a crowd-pleaser with shrimp added, loved by all ages
- Octopus duck jumulleok: chewy, springy domestic octopus caught right in Ganghwa
- Duck roast: fresh duck served with onion and seasonal vegetables like water dropwort, shepherd's purse, perilla leaves, chives, and green onion
- Samchae duck roast: fresh duck with onion, seasonal vegetables, and samchae for extra flavor depth
- Fried duck gizzard and savory potato pancake made with Ganghwa potatoes
A perfect menu lineup. We ordered the potato pancake and duck jumulleok.

How the briquette-charcoal first sear works
When you order duck jumulleok, a veteran craftsman personally gives the specially seasoned duck a first grill over charcoal fire right at your table. Watching it grilled over real charcoal really builds the anticipation.
The key is frequent turning so nothing burns during the first grill. So much care goes in — it's impossible for this Ganghwa Luge-area favorite not to taste good.

Fresh green onion and onion go in alongside during the grilling. To keep freshness and flavor at their best, this Mani-san favorite ages and sells only a set amount of meat each day.

The lightly seasoned side dishes and self-serve bar my parents loved
Homemade dongchimi (watery radish kimchi), eggplant namul, sweet potato candy made from Ganghwa sweet potatoes, tangy yeolmu kimchi, and fresh leafy greens — a truly complete spread.

Being able to freely help yourself to cool dongchimi and ssam radish at the self-serve bar made things so convenient at this favorite near Jeondeungsa. The domestic side dishes, made from Ganghwa-grown sweet potatoes and greens and seasoned mildly to suit local elders' palates, were a big hit with my parents.

Adding chives and perilla leaves to the duck jumulleok
The charcoal-grilled duck jumulleok is great on its own, but adding fragrant chives and perilla leaves makes it even better! Being able to grab as much as you want from the self-serve bar was a plus. Fragrant perilla and chive aromas mingling with the subtle smoky flavor of the duck jumulleok, plus the chewy rice cake add-in, were all delicious.
The charcoal-smoked duck jumulleok is finally complete once you stir-fry it together with big, garden-grown perilla leaves.

The chewy duck meat and special sauce were incredible at this Ganghwa favorite.

Potato pancake and fried rice to finish
We also ordered a crispy potato pancake made from Ganghwa potatoes, and it was incredibly savory and delicious.

The portion was pretty big, but it would've been a shame to skip the fried rice, so we ordered it too. Fried in the special sauce and duck fat, the rice was truly a delicacy. My parents actually enjoyed it even more than the meat, at this Mani-san favorite.
