Ganghwa family-trip duck restaurant with non-spicy roast: Deok Ori

In short

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck specialist on Manisan-ro in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon, where same-day butchered duck is aged in a house sauce and pre-grilled over charcoal briquettes. Travelling with children who cannot eat spicy food, our family ordered the duck roast for three at 60,000 won, and the genuine smoky fire flavor plus mild Ganghwa vegetable side dishes won over even kids who usually avoid meat. Just 10 minutes from Ganghwa Luge and Mani Mountain, Deok Ori Jumulleok slots easily into a family day out.

Signature duck roast photo at Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch

Hi, this is Hahiho. Today I'm sharing my review of Deok Ori Jumulleok, a famous restaurant near Jeondeungsa Temple in Ganghwa, which we visited on a family trip to the island.

What kind of place is Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch?

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a well-known restaurant that's even been on TV. It serves jumulleok (stir-grilled marinated meat) made from same-day butchered fresh duck, marinated in a special sauce perfected by an artisan who's run a duck restaurant for decades. The duck is pre-grilled over charcoal briquettes, so you get that real fire flavor along with the taste — it's even more delicious that way. The side dishes are made with sweet potatoes and vegetables grown right on Ganghwa Island, all domestically sourced, mild, and neatly prepared, so you can enjoy a healthier meal here.

Deok Ori Jumulleok only marinates and sells a set amount of meat per day to keep things fresh and tasty. Once that day's portion sells out, they close for the day. So it's best to call ahead or make a reservation before visiting.

Is the restaurant comfortable with young kids?

The inside of Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch was spacious enough to seat a lot of people. ✔️ Baby chairs were available. ✔️ It looked like it's been on TV a lot — photos from various broadcasts were hung all over the walls.

That kind of track record must mean the food is guaranteed to be good, right? My expectations were building up!

Table setting while waiting for the pre-grilled duck

✔️ The duck dishes here start pre-grilling the moment you order, so it takes about 8–15 minutes. If you wait patiently, delicious duck will come out.

✔️ I personally care a lot about restrooms — this one was outside the main building but still clean! While we waited and ate, I saw the owner and staff clearing tables and tidying up right away as soon as customers left, and it really felt like this place takes cleanliness seriously.

The banchan (side dishes) were set out, and they were genuinely delicious. ✔️ Made with Ganghwa vegetables in a mild homemade style, I kept reaching for them again and again. Nothing was overly seasoned or spicy! They were great to give the kids too. As for what we actually ordered—

That's what we got. Since our family can't handle spicy food well, we chose the duck roast, and I'd recommend it to anyone with kids who can't eat spicy dishes. The duck roast turned out to be an excellent choice — it was really delicious. ✔️ The fire flavor from the pre-grilling was outstanding. Not some artificial smoky sauce — the real thing! Need I say more?

The pre-grilled duck was brought to our table, where the owner grilled it again for us.

A finishing touch of perilla leaves right at the end added even more flavor as the crowning touch. What a mouthwatering sight! I couldn't stop reaching for it!

Even our kids, who normally dislike meat, devoured this happily!
