My two weeks at the postnatal care center are almost over. In two days I finally go home and real-life parenting begins, and I can't believe it.. 🥲

Before the real parenting starts, I got a day pass from the care center and went out with my husband for some good jokbal (braised pig's trotters)! Today's place is Wangchang Jokbal near Sunae Station, famous as a Bundang jokbal favorite. It has been loved by lots of people for a long time, so I was extra excited.

Wangchang Jokbal near Sunae Station: opening hours and location

Wangchang Jokbal is open Mon–Fri 16:00–23:00 and Sat–Sun 14:00–22:00, with parking in the Daeduk Glory Building and 3 hours covered. It has held its spot in Sunae-dong, Bundang for 14 years, so it's well known among locals too!

Where to park for Wangchang Jokbal

Use the Daeduk Glory Building parking lot. Look for the sign that says Daeduk Glory Building! It's a blue sign, easy to spot from far away, and the passage down isn't narrow, so even beginner drivers should be fine!

The lot is fairly big so parking was comfortable; just pay a little attention to the entry and exit routes and there shouldn't be any trouble.

Take the elevator up to the ground floor and the restaurant is right there, so access is great. It's also a short walk from Sunae Station, so I thought it would work well for a company dinner or a gathering.

A huge sign catches your eye at the entrance, and it makes you expect a generous heap of jokbal, just like the name (Wangchang means "loads"). The look of the jokbal caught my eye even before going in..✨

What Wangchang Jokbal is like on a Saturday evening

We came on a Saturday evening, so the place was almost full. Family dinners, friend gatherings, company dinners, everyone was there, so sadly I couldn't take photos of the interior. But the restaurant was clean and tidy overall, and the tables were spaced well enough to eat comfortably. Just what you'd expect from a jokbal place near Sunae Station that so many people visit 👍

We ordered the medium Wangchang original jokbal and the tray makguksu. If you handle spicy food well, I think half-and-half would be good too!

The eorigul-jeot especially was a welcome surprise, since you rarely see it at other jokbal places!

With dried radish, seasoned chives and radish wraps too, we were fully loaded with ways to enjoy the jokbal.

Doenjang soup served as a basic at Wangchang Jokbal

The doenjang (soybean paste) soup served as a basic was impressive too. After one spoonful I kept going back for more, it was so deeply savory, and you can feel the care put even into the basic sides. The best of the best!

How does the Wangchang original jokbal taste?

The original jokbal was tender with no gamey smell, and it glistened beautifully. And here comes the star of the day! Can you feel the glossy shine even in the photo?

I'm so sad the photo couldn't capture all of this moist softness 🥲

Lately I've eaten jokbal delivered at home a lot, but warm jokbal fresh in the restaurant is definitely different. Maybe because they boil domestic fresh trotters in-house, I couldn't smell any gaminess at all, and the texture was really tender. With the first bite I understood right away why it has a reputation as a Bundang jokbal favorite.

A piece of jokbal held up with chopsticks

I love wraps, so I piled jokbal, garlic and eorigul-jeot on a lettuce leaf and took a big bite, and it was so satisfying.😀 After nothing but care center meals, real protein tasted even better. If you're looking for jokbal in Bundang, I think you'll be happy with this quality.

Tray makguksu and a free steamed egg at Wangchang Jokbal

The tray makguksu was a really generous portion. The vegetables inside are seriously amazing! The staff kindly told us the noodles are already cut for easy eating, so we could just dig in.

Tray makguksu with a giant ice block

I felt the coolness the moment I took a bite of the makguksu, thanks to the giant ice block inside haha. Because of that ice, the noodles didn't get soggy until the very end. I put a little makguksu on top of the jokbal and ate them together, and the chewy jokbal with the sweet and tangy noodles was pure heaven..

Eating makguksu on top of jokbal

The complimentary steamed egg was fluffy and soft, perfect for a spoonful between bites of jokbal. I heard Wangchang is also known as the Sunae-dong jokbal place famous for its spicy jokbal. We had the original this time, but I'll definitely try the spicy one next time.
