Suwon Homaesil eel restaurant, Sakuriya bowl set for two: 99Jangeo88

We're the Dudeong Couple, out hunting for good restaurants. Today's spot is an eel restaurant in Homaesil, Suwon — we wanted something simple but hearty for lunch, so we went looking for rice bowl places and found this Suwon eel rice bowl spot, 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch!

Where is 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch, and what are its hours?

99Jangeo88 Homaesil Branch is at 104, 105-ho, 24-70 Homaesil-ro 104beon-gil, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea. It's open Sun-Mon 10:00-21:00 and Wed-Sat 10:00-22:00, closed Tuesdays. Parking, takeout, and delivery are all available.

We came back from this Suwon Homaesil eel spot having eaten such a gorgeous-looking eel rice bowl! The composition was great, and served in a square lunchbox container, it looked just like the eel rice bowl I had on a trip to Japan — I was so satisfied. What the restaurant feels like at lunchtime

99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch, a well-known spot in Homaesil-dong, Suwon, isn't a huge restaurant, but there were quite a lot of customers already in for grilled eel at lunchtime.

As a famous Suwon eel restaurant, the smell of grilling eel was amazing haha.

The menu includes salt-grilled eel, seasoned grilled eel, all-you-can-eat eel and more! There are also rice-bowl-style meals like freshwater eel stew and eel rice bowl, so it also works well as a Suwon lunch spot — this Suwon eel rice bowl restaurant is great for that haha.

They also give you free noodles if you write a Naver receipt review! That side dish is normally priced ₩8,000-10,000, so getting it free through the review event is a steal, isn't it? Feels like a great value Suwon restaurant haha.

Sakuriya eel rice bowl, regular vs large: how much do you get?

We ordered two Sakuriya eel rice bowls! My boyfriend went with the large, and I got the regular — but the regular came with a crazy amount of food too... haha.

Unless you have a massive appetite, even the regular size is filling — the portion was huge, and I loved that~

The self-serve bar for grilled eel customers

There's also a self-serve bar for people eating grilled eel! Dipping sauce, ginger, wrapping greens and more — anyone having grilled eel can grab as many side dishes as they like haha.

What comes with the Sakuriya eel rice bowl tray

The eel rice bowl finally arrived! Isn't the presentation amazing? I was honestly surprised at how good the whole spread was.

I thought it'd just be the eel rice bowl, but it came with all sorts of side dishes, fried shrimp, and even kimchi noodles... a full table spread — this Homaesil, Suwon eel restaurant we visited for lunch would've been just as fitting for dinner lol.

Seasoned chives, steamed egg, kimchi noodles, fried shrimp, clear soup with fried tofu, cabbage salad and more — the lineup was so varied, from a salad to eat before the meal to fried shrimp to snack on in between, it really felt like eating a course meal haha.

The kimchi noodles had a really savory tang from the sour kimchi~ Cool, sweet and tangy at the same time, it was a great side dish that cut right through the richness of the eel rice bowl!!

Fried shrimp

The fried shrimp was amazing too! The shrimp were big and full of flavor, and the frying was done so well it stayed super crispy — I kept reaching for more lol.

Steamed egg with shrimp and mushroom

This steamed egg with shrimp and mushroom was so, so soft, and I really enjoyed it~ Lightly seasoned, creamy and smooth, it was nice for settling your stomach before the meal, and with plump shrimp and fragrant mushroom packed in, it was a small but rich, high-end side dish haha.

How the eel tastes at 99Jangeo88

Now for the star of the show, the eel! True to being a Suwon eel rice bowl restaurant, the quality here was on another level..! The eel was so soft it just crumbled and melted in my mouth haha.

The finely sliced green onions on top were fragrant and full of savory flavor haha. Best of all, the eel sauce wasn't too salty or too sweet, so you could really taste the eel itself~ There were barely any small bones either, so the soft texture felt fantastic haha.

On top of everything, the rice here was unusual too — the portion was just right!! A lot of eel rice bowl places skimp on the eel topping and pile on plain rice instead, but at this Suwon eel rice bowl restaurant, 99Jangeo88, there's more eel and the yellow turmeric rice underneath is laid thin, which made it even tastier, ㅠㅠ.

Is the Sakuriya eel rice bowl worth it?

99Jangeo88, a Suwon eel rice bowl restaurant that serves up a gorgeous, generous full table spread! We came looking for a good lunch spot in Homaesil-dong, Suwon, and the quality and composition were way better than expected — we left completely full haha. Next time I want to try the grilled eel too!~~
