Guwol-dong beef rib spot where a lid blocks the smoke: Sip Sam Dae

In short

Sip Sam Dae is a beef restaurant near Yesulhoegwan Station in Guwol-dong, Incheon, where staff grill aged ugalbi (thick-cut beef short ribs) over charcoal for you. On a holiday visit with a younger brother, the writer ordered the Ugalbi A Set for 86,000 won; staff covered the meat with a pot lid whenever smoke rose, so clothes barely smelled afterwards, and snipped off burnt bits with scissors as they grilled. Sip Sam Dae is a little pricey, but the meat quality and grilling service make it worth the money.

During the holiday break, I was craving meat grilled by someone else instead of greasy jeon (pan-fried fritters), so I dragged my brother out. I found a place where you can fully enjoy luxurious aged beef thanks to skillful grilling service! Let me take you through my visit to Sip Sam Dae, a beef restaurant in Guwol-dong near Yesulhoegwan Station with a hip vibe, juicy ugalbi, and service that's just as impressive.

What's the vibe and seating like at Sip Sam Dae in Guwol-dong?

Pub-like interior of Sip Sam Dae restaurant
Softly lit interior space at Sip Sam Dae

With its soft lighting and displayed wine bottles, Sip Sam Dae feels more like a pub or bar than a beef restaurant. Even though I came right when they opened, there were already quite a few families eating — I guess word-of-mouth spots really are different. The moment I stepped inside, I was surprised by interiors on a totally different level from a typical Korean BBQ place. It felt like walking into a stylish pub or bar.

From outside, Sip Sam Dae looked compact, but the space stretched deep inside — easily 50 to 60 seats! The seating was mostly 4- and 6-person tables with high partitions, so I could focus on the meal privately. It's a great Guwol-dong beef restaurant for a date or a work dinner.

What's in the Sip Sam Dae Ugalbi A Set, and how much is it?

Ordering the Sip Sam Dae Ugalbi A Set

The Sip Sam Dae Ugalbi A Set is 86,000 won and comes with 500g of ugalbi, 300g of Selecta Duroc special pork belly, and a large doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice with liquor). Sip Sam Dae is famous for its aged beef, so I ordered this set to properly enjoy their signature ugalbi. It's the best cost-performance combo for tasting a bit of everything!

Is the smoke manageable, and will it stick to your clothes?

At Sip Sam Dae, staff grill the meat directly over charcoal, and whenever smoke rose, they covered it with something like a pot lid to block it completely. Since I'd made a reservation, the table was already neatly set up, and the ugalbi that arrived was so thick it was visually stunning! The staff's grilling skill really stood out.

Thanks to that, almost no smell stuck to my clothes, and I got to enjoy perfectly grilled meat with just a faint charcoal aroma. I finally understood why everyone talks about Sip Sam Dae when it comes to beef in Guwol-dong!

How did the ugalbi and special pork belly taste?

Ugalbi cut into bite-sized pieces

Sip Sam Dae's ugalbi has a chewy texture packed with deep beefy flavor. With a bit of salt and fresh wasabi, the natural charm of the beef comes through 100%, and dipped in the secret sauce it gets a sweet-and-salty rib flavor that's absolutely addictive with rice!

Once we'd worked through the ugalbi, they grilled the Selecta Duroc special pork belly next so the flow wouldn't break. Grilling over charcoal inevitably creates some char, but the staff carefully trimmed every burnt bit with scissors, grilling with care right to the end.

The moment I took a bite, the juices burst out so much it felt like a waste to even wrap it in lettuce — this was the best pork belly of my life! You could really taste the expertise of a true Guwol-dong beef restaurant.

Service from the owner and the doenjang sulbap finish

The owner of Sip Sam Dae moved busily around the floor, taking care of whatever each table needed with impressive timing! Right as I was wondering whether to press the call button, he showed up at just the right moment and asked, "Would you like more of this?" It was so touching.

The meal wrapped up with the hearty doenjang sulbap included in the A Set! Rice soaked in savory broth warmed us right up. Picking off the last bits of rib meat still stuck to the bone and eating it together was the perfect finish. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but with excellent meat quality and grilling service that makes you feel truly taken care of, it was the best beef restaurant near Yesulhoegwan Station — totally worth the money!

How's parking at Sip Sam Dae?

Sip Sam Dae says on-site parking is available, but since it's tucked in an alley, finding the entrance or fitting into the space can feel a bit tight! If you're driving, I'd recommend just using a nearby public or private lot like 'Guwol Parking Lot' for peace of mind. We happened to visit during the holiday break when the lot was open, so we parked easily and enjoyed our meal!

Final verdict: who should go here?

Juicy, bursting ugalbi and grilling service that touched my heart! A perfect beef feast where you feel truly taken care of.
