Bone soup restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon: a bowl each with wasabi soy

In short

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a 24-hour pork bone soup (ppyeo haejangguk) restaurant in the Drama City building in Ingye-dong, Suwon. Instead of a shared bone hot pot, the writer ordered one bowl each: ugeoji (dried cabbage leaf) special bone soup at regular spice and ugeoji bone soup at spicy. The writer picked the meat off 4 thick bones and dipped it in the soy sauce served with the meal mixed with wasabi. Verdict: at Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk, stripping all the meat off and mixing rice into the soup was the tastiest way to eat it.

A bone soup restaurant in Ingye-dong where you can actually park

Parking is always tight in Ingye-dong, so there aren't many places where you can eat with peace of mind — but at Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk you can park in the building's lot and eat 🎉 This chain, famous in Cheonan, opened a branch in Ingye-dong and word spread fast around here 👍 They say it has a lot of regulars thanks to the spicy, rich broth, and I'm planning to become one too!! It seems like a great spot to grab a bowl of hangover soup on the way home after drinking late into the night 👏 (If only I were a few years younger…🤣)

It's a haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant with pretty bold text and colors emphasizing how spicy it is 👏 A really spicy broth definitely clears you right up, so I bet some people walk in just spellbound by the photos and slogans 😉

What's on the menu and how do you choose the spice level

The menu at Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk includes bone hot pot (small/medium/large), special bone soup / ugeoji special bone soup, bone soup / ugeoji bone soup, bone udon soup / seonji (blood) soup, and you can pick your spice level among extra spicy / spicy / regular / mild. The menu is pretty simple so it's easy to choose, and I like that you can select the spice level 🙏 Regular, which doesn't upset your stomach, is fine too, but I wanted something a bit spicier so I ordered the spicy version 😉 Everyone's taste is different, but based on trying the spicy version myself, I feel like that's about as spicy as you'd want to go!! 🙏 You can also order steamed mandu (dumplings) and sliced boiled pork as sides, so it's nice to have those alongside.

The vibe of the restaurant and group seating

The interior was clean and quite spacious 😃 There's a separate section set up in the back, which is great for groups! Since I visited after the weekend lunch rush, I was able to eat pretty comfortably 🙏 Lots of solo diners and families were there, and it seemed like it would also get a lot of use as a meeting spot for friends in the evening 👏

They bring out kkakdugi and pickled onions, and that amount of banchan felt just right for haejangguk. Since I came with my kid, they brought us separate cutlery 🙏 (They have a baby chair!!)

Ugeoji special bone soup in regular spice, ugeoji bone soup in spicy

We ordered ugeoji (special) bone soup in regular spice and ugeoji bone soup in spicy. Normally we'd share one pot of bone hot pot, but since I wasn't feeling 100%, we decided to go with one bowl each 👍👍 My spouse and I both love ugeoji, so we both chose the ugeoji bone soup!! The 'special' version has one more bone, so if you're a guy with a big appetite, I'd recommend the special!

The bowl was so full the soup was nearly overflowing, and I loved that 👍 There was a lot of finely chopped green onion on top too, and the sharp bite of the green onion while eating made the whole thing taste cleaner — really nice.

The spicy version had a thinner-looking broth color, and just looking at it felt like it would clear your head 👏 It had been a while since I had to pick meat off bones, so I found myself thinking, how do I even eat this...? I didn't want to use my hands, but is there anyone who can eat bone soup without using their hands..?? (Someone teach me the trick 🙏) The whole point is enjoying pulling the meat off the bone bit by bit!!

There were about 4 thick, meaty bones in the bowl, and quite a lot of ugeoji too!!

Better dipped in the broth than in wasabi soy sauce

I dipped the meat in the soy sauce mixed with wasabi that came with it, and it was tasty. But dipping it in a little bit of the broth and eating the meat together with the broth is wayyy tastier 👍

A piece of meat dipped in wasabi soy sauce

I was lucky enough to get a big chunk of meat that fell off the bone, and I ate it in one big bite — soft and delicious 👏 I kept spooning up the broth, probably because that savory flavor kept spreading through my mouth. Once I tried it, I could clearly see why it had gotten so much word of mouth 👍 It's the kind of flavor that pops back into your head a few days after eating it!

At first I was picking the meat off piece by piece, but I decided that wasn't going to cut it, so I just stripped all the meat off completely and ate it that way. Taking a huge mouthful at once was seriously delicious 🎉

Mixing in rice, and the final verdict

I'm not usually the type to mix rice into haejangguk, but I ended up stripping off all the meat from the bones and mixing it with rice, and honestly, this was the best part 🙏 You have to mix rice into the soup, no question!!

If you want a refreshing hangover cure with a spicy bone soup, I highly recommend visiting and trying it 🙏 It's a 24-hour haejangguk spot in Ingye-dong with parking available, so it's a convenient place to visit.
