In short
Jugeokjip is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Jisan-dong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. After a tiring date, we enjoyed pork belly, yukhoe bibim-naengmyeon, and soybean paste stew, plus a warmly maintained self-service bar and free unlimited soju. Verdict: a hearty, satisfying meal worth revisiting.

After going on a date over the weekend evening, we’d been out and about all day, so we were both completely exhausted, haha. Times like this call for some delicious meat to recharge us! 🥩 The place we found for dinner was Jugeokjip (주걱집) in Jisan-dong, Pyeongtaek.

I’d originally been looking for a good restaurant around Pyeongtaek Godeok, and this happened to be nearby, so we gave it a try. But this place... was way better than I expected?!
A Songtan meat restaurant with lots of local regulars
The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how many local regulars there were! There were especially lots of middle-aged male customers, haha. Places like that just make me trust them more for some reason.

Dads don’t usually keep going somewhere if the food isn’t good... haha. And Jugeokjip has one more amazing point: unlimited soju, completely free!! 🍶
If you enjoy soju with your meat, isn’t that a seriously huge perk? Maybe that’s why quite a few people had come by for drinks from dinnertime onward.

How were the side dishes and self-service bar?
What I especially liked at Jugeokjip was the number of side dishes! There were so many that at first I wondered, “With this many, will the food actually be okay?”
I’ve had experiences at places with lots of side dishes where some of the food felt old 🥲 But not here... every single thing was delicious!!! Even the tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) at the self-service bar was good, haha. Me, being impressed by tteokbokki at a meat restaurant... 🤭
A self-service bar kept warm
Having lots of side dishes was great, but I was even more pleased that the self-service bar was kept so clean. In particular, the tteokbokki and soup weren’t just set out; they were kept warm in dedicated rice cookers.
That meant we could eat them warm, and it felt like they really cared about food management too. Little details like this quietly make such a difference in how satisfied you are ✨

What we ordered and prices
- Pork belly ₩18,000 × 2 servings
- Korean beef yukhoe bibim-naengmyeon ₩19,000
- Rice ₩1,000
- Traditional meat-restaurant doenjang-jjigae ₩7,000

Maybe because we arrived hungry, we really enjoyed the meat from the very start, haha. And you know how, when you have a bite of naengmyeon (cold noodles) while eating meat, its tangy flavor makes you want to keep going? 😋
It was generously topped with Korean beef yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), and the yukhoe was so fresh and delicious!!!

Traditional doenjang-jjigae loaded with ingredients
And something that was unexpectedly satisfying was the doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew)! At meat restaurants, the stew can sometimes feel like a quick afterthought because it’s a meal item, but that definitely wasn’t the case here!

It was packed with ingredients including tofu and onions, making it perfect with rice. It wasn’t just a stew full of broth—it had plenty of solid ingredients too, so it felt like a properly filling meal 🙌🏻
Why I want to return
What I felt after visiting Jugeokjip was, “This is what a real neighborhood favorite is!” The meat was delicious, there were lots of side dishes, the self-service bar was clean, the tteokbokki and soup were kept warm, and above all, there was free unlimited soju! 🍶

So that’s why there were so many local middle-aged male regulars—it wasn’t for no reason, haha. I recommend it if you’re looking for a good restaurant near the Songtan Service Office or a meat restaurant where you can eat generously!
We went thinking, “Let’s just recharge with some good food today,” and ended up enjoying it far more than expected, so we were very satisfied. I think this is somewhere I’ll remember next time I’m craving meat 🫶🏻
