A great place for a family meal with parents by Baegun Lake
We’re leaving tomorrow for a two-day, one-night family trip to Sokcho. My parents came over to our house, and while looking for somewhere to take them for a family meal, I heard that Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, a popular spot by Baegun Lake in Uiwang, was good—so we visited the Baegun Lake Branch.
There are lots of good restaurants around Baegun Lake in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do. It’s quiet and parking is easy, which makes it a great area for a family gathering~

There was a large parking lot right in front, so we could park and eat without any worries. Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Baegun Lake Branch, known for Korean set meals around Baegun Lake, is in a hanok-style building, which felt both upscale and calming.

When eating with older family members, I pay a lot of attention to the atmosphere too, and this was such a nice place to bring my parents. Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo has a varied menu, from grilled fish and braised fish to spicy marinated crab. Since there were four of us, including one young child, we ordered one children’s meal and three adult meals.

Four people, each ordering a different pot-rice set
- Bracken mackerel and radish braise pot-rice set ₩19,000
- Atka mackerel pot-rice set ₩19,000
- West Coast spicy marinated crab pot-rice set ₩23,000
- Mackerel set for children ages 5–7 ₩9,000
This is how we ordered our varied menu! It’s not a place where two people have to order the same dish, so it was so convenient and nice to choose different things :) The portions were generous too, making everything great for sharing!

Once we finished ordering for four, they brought out the basic side dishes~ The cabbage soup and six side dishes were set out so neatly. The cabbage soup wasn’t spicy, so even our child could eat it^^

A self-serve bar for easy extra side dishes
There is a separate self-serve bar here, where you can bring back the side dishes you want or get more if the dishes served at first aren’t enough. Besides the six side dishes that come out initially, there are several more options, so just help yourself to what you like!
The self-serve bar had a variety of side dishes and prepared foods, including acorn jelly, lotus root, bellflower root, salad, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). Being able to get them ourselves meant we didn’t have to feel self-conscious, and it made for a relaxed meal.

Grilled fish, braised mackerel, and marinated crab
The three adult meals we ordered were all pot-rice sets! First came grilled mackerel and Spanish mackerel to eat with the pot rice, and while we were eating, they brought out the braised mackerel and spicy marinated crab too^^

The grilled fish was nutty, mild, and pleasantly salty—the ultimate rice stealer—but the braised fish was really delicious too~! It had big pieces of lightly sweet radish and bracken fern, and it tasted every bit as good as it looked.

The spicy marinated crab exceeded my expectations too~ The seasoning was spicy, sweet, clean-tasting, and so good that I would have felt disappointed if we had ordered only grilled fish :) Even next time, I think I’d definitely want the crab and braised fish alongside the grilled fish. Between the crab and braised fish, though, the crab was more my taste!!!

We had such a lovely time enjoying a Korean set meal with my parents at this Baegun Lake restaurant~ If you’re craving grilled fish around Baegun Lake, I think it would be nice to stop by Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Baegun Lake Branch. Beyond grilled fish, there are plenty of other dishes, so try mixing and matching a few!
