Green Brownie stands out for its spacious, cool room and the owner's thoughtful service.

A Daecheon Beach café on the way home from Wonsando to Ilsan
We'd come for a one-night trip to the Wonsando natural recreation forest in Boryeong. Before heading back to Ilsan, I stopped at Green Brownie Boryeong City Hall Branch, a café near Daecheon Beach, to refill on caffeine and dessert.

I knew nothing except that the fruit sandwiches were supposed to be good, and the place was bigger than I expected. As someone who hates feeling cramped, that put me in a good mood.

Green Brownie is also a fruit sandwich lunchbox specialist, apparently making them as you like after discussing price and quantity. Living alone, fruit is surprisingly hard to keep up with. If you buy a lot, most of it goes soft and gets thrown out, but the small packs are so expensive. A place like this nearby would cut food waste and the burden, so I was honestly a little jealous of the people who live here.

Bingsu (shaved ice) season is finally back! And since this place specializes in fruit sandwiches, imagine how fresh the fruit must be. If my teeth hadn't suddenly gotten so sensitive lately, as if I'd been hit with early aging, I would have ordered the tangy strawberry bingsu. I still regret that.

What are the interior and seating like at Green Brownie?
The air conditioning is strong, and there is a good variety of seats: a central group table, window seats and transparent-partition seats. A blast of cold air hit me the moment I opened the door. Yes, in the heat of summer, forget the view and the mood: the spot with blasting AC is the best seat in the house.

The central group table reminded me of a study café. The mix of metal and wood felt comfortable and even cooler. If I'd had time, I would have sat here with a book I wanted to read, but the traffic jam ahead weighs on this Goyang resident's heart.

The window seats had a different feel from the big central table.

Wide tables and comfy chairs gave even a hurried out-of-towner a relaxed break.

The transparent partitions, cleverly printed with the logo, keep things from feeling stuffy while still giving privacy, and sure enough, a family had already claimed this spot.

What are the drink prices and menu at Green Brownie?
Drinks at Green Brownie Boryeong City Hall Branch were ₩5,000–6,000, and as a sandwich specialist it had a wide range of brunch items. The counter and dessert case were small but packed full.

After a stretch of seeing ₩9,000 or ₩10,000 drinks at every café I visit, seeing ₩5,000–6,000 drinks put my mind at ease.

The anbutter croissant missing from the menu: they made it on request
Like I said, as a sandwich specialist it had all sorts of brunch dishes, a perfect lineup for a light, fresh meal. But, you see, I'm the type who reads menus closely as a hobby and had already planned my order before coming, and the anbutter (red bean and butter) croissant I wanted wasn't there! After a moment of hesitation I asked the owner, who said they no longer sell it but would make it if I wanted. Oh... then of course, yes!! I'll take it!! With that kindness, Green Brownie, a place I'd just met, was already stamped in my memory as a good one.

The cake and dessert case, and individual wrapping
After receiving that kindness, how could the place not look pretty to me? Cakes and desserts were displayed neatly and cleanly, and the bottom shelf held fresh fruit, which gave me real trust in the ingredients.

Every dessert was individually wrapped too, which pleased me all the more since I'm picky about exposed baked goods. There were things to grab casually and things good for gifts, all here.

Another customer's sandwich was coming out and I snapped a photo without thinking. Even just by eye, you could feel the freshness of the vegetables inside.

How do the iced Americano and mini croissant anbutter taste?
The iced Americano at Green Brownie was clean with no sourness and went well with dessert, and the mini croissant anbutter had a crisp croissant, slightly frozen butter and a pinch of salt as the kicker. A little later, my coffee and dessert arrived, made quickly even though I'd ordered something that wasn't on the menu.

Normally I'd always pick decaf, but with a long drive ahead I went for an iced Americano with one shot. It had no sourness yet was fresh, clean and refreshing, so it paired really well with both heavy sweets and creamy desserts.

This is the mini croissant anbutter, not on the menu but brought to me by the owner's kindness.

First, the croissant itself, the base, is delicious. The outside shatters like pastry and the dense inside is nutty. The red bean filling isn't overly sweet yet keeps that soft bean texture, and the thick, slightly frozen butter was like ice cream. Together they were so satisfying that, despite feeling sorry for ordering something off the menu, I thought I'd been right to ask. The whole time I wondered what butter they use that's this rich without being greasy, and then in the photo I saw a tiny bit of salt sprinkled on the butter!! That was definitely the kicker.

The Dwaeji Bar macaron with a handle, and a chocolate biscuit
Two macarons I ordered to put sugar into my exhausted body, like filling a car with gas.

The Dwaeji Bar macaron I picked even had a cute handle, which doubled the fun of eating it. It had bumpy crunchy shells like the real Dwaeji Bar (a Korean pink strawberry ice cream bar) with a really thick filling, so it honestly felt like eating one. I also got a chocolate biscuit to keep my mouth company on the drive up.
Green Brownie Boryeong City Hall Branch in one line
Green Brownie, one minute from Boryeong City Hall, left an impression with its comfortable yet stylish metal-and-wood mood and sandwich brunch made with seasonal fruit.

A Daecheon Beach café I'll remember for an owner whose kindness matched the atmosphere and the food.
