Seomyeon Milmyeon is a milmyeon (cold wheat noodle) restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, near Seomyeon Station. Ordering the extra-large portion (곱배기, ₩10,000+₩1,000) plus dumplings from the entrance kiosk for a solo lunch, the bowl size alone was surprising, and the warm broth on the side made it easy to finish. The flavor is familiar, not-too-bold Busan-style milmyeon — the kind of place that comes to mind again whenever lunch in Seomyeon is undecided.

Busan galbitang restaurant, second visit with jungmyeon noodles: Gang

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro near Seomyeon Station in Busan. On a second visit, adding Jeju jungmyeon noodles to the basic galbitang and trying the spicy eolkeun gukbap showed off two very different broths, one rich and clean, one peppery and deep. With a self-serve side dish counter, it was a filling, easygoing meal.

Loach soup set with mackerel, pork and makgeolli: Ilpum Irojeong

Ilpum Irojeong is a Korean restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam, serving loach soup as a full table setting. The writer ordered the mackerel-and-pork loach soup set from a kiosk, added fried loach and a bottle of Milyang Arirang makgeolli, and worked through pork, grilled mackerel, japchae and side dishes in one sitting. It's a better fit for a leisurely, generous meal than a quick single bowl of loach soup.
