There's a place in Seomyeon I somehow end up revisiting whenever I get a craving for milmyeon (cold wheat noodles). It's Seomyeon Milmyeon. This time too, I was just passing by and got a sudden urge, so I walked in. The whole vibe of the place screams old-school neighborhood favorite. Quite a few signatures from past customers are stuck on the wall, and the interior isn't fancy at all — it just feels like a comfortable spot to sit down and eat a bowl of milmyeon.

The menu has milmyeon for ₩10,000 and bibim milmyeon (spicy mixed noodles) for ₩10,000, with the extra-large portion adding ₩1,000. They also have dumplings, which go well as a side order.

Just how big is the extra-large portion?

I went with the extra-large this time, and honestly, the size caught me off guard. Usually when you order extra-large somewhere else, you expect just a bit more noodles. Here, it's a real 'okay, I definitely ordered extra-large' amount. Even in photos the bowl itself looks big, but in person it feels even more generous. Comparing it against my own hand, the size is pretty striking. It felt like an extra-extra-large.

These days there's no shortage of bold flavors or photogenic food, but the places you end up returning to are usually the comfortable ones. Seomyeon Milmyeon felt exactly like that. Don't come expecting something wildly special — come when you want a proper, familiar bowl of Busan-style milmyeon. Worth a stop if you're stuck deciding on lunch near Seomyeon. Because it sits in such a familiar part of Seomyeon, it also feels almost too comfortable, in a good way.

Easy enough for a light solo meal

The place itself has that lived-in look but never felt messy, and turnover is quick, so eating alone and heading out wasn't awkward at all. The menu isn't complicated, so ordering was easy, and even one regular bowl of milmyeon left me pretty full. The extra-large in particular would satisfy even a big eater, so if it's your first visit, it's worth thinking about portion size before you order.

I don't cut the noodles all the way with scissors. I just cross-cut them twice and eat.

A cup of warm broth pairs perfectly

What I personally liked was the warm broth. It's nice to sip warm before starting on the milmyeon, and it's also great to drink between bites of the cold noodles to settle your stomach. I tend to pay close attention to the warm broth at places like this, and paired with the milmyeon, it worked well together.

So it's not the kind of dish where your first bite makes you go 'wow, I've never tasted anything like this.' It's more on the mild, easy-to-eat side. But that kind of place quietly lasts for years. Since it's never too sweet, spicy, or intense, it's not a one-and-done dish — after some time passes, you find yourself thinking about it again.

Dumplings on the side

I also ordered dumplings on the side. The wrapping is thin and soft with filling inside, so it was nice to have alongside milmyeon when the noodles alone felt like they weren't quite enough. It seems like it would pair especially well with a seasoned dish like bibim milmyeon too.

Overall, Seomyeon Milmyeon isn't a flashy or trendy kind of restaurant. But it's not a one-time visit either. It's just reliably tasty, generously portioned, and with a cup of warm broth on the side, it makes for an easy, comfortable meal. If you're a big eater especially, try the extra-large portion — it's only ₩1,000 more, but the difference in quantity felt quite significant.

I don't have any special reason for going back, really — it's just the place I end up visiting again and again whenever I crave milmyeon in Seomyeon. And maybe that's exactly what makes a restaurant a true neighborhood survivor.
