Today I'm sharing a review of Hyewon Sogopchang (혜원소곱창), where I had a seriously satisfying meal in Wangsimni!

How close is Hyewon Sogopchang to Wangsimni Station?
Hyewon Sogopchang is really close to Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station, so it works well as a meeting spot after work. It sits inside the Wangsimni food alley, so it's easy to get to, nice. It has a reputation as a go-to beef gopchang place in Wangsimni, so it fills up quickly in the evening.

What side dishes come with the meal at Hyewon Sogopchang?
Sweet-sour seasoned tripe salad as a side
It was pretty unusual that seasoned tripe salad (cheonyeop-muchim) comes out as a side dish. At most gopchang places you only get liver or tripe slices, but the salad here is tossed sweet and sour, so I kept picking at it before the gopchang arrived. It does a solid job as a drinking snack too.

Spicy bean sprout ramen loaded with sprouts
Spicy bean sprout ramen comes along with the meal. It's packed with bean sprouts, so the broth is refreshing and kicks a little, and it went really well with the richness of the gopchang. Honestly, I'd order this ramen even if they sold it on its own. So good.

With little extras like these, I understood why customers keep coming back: it's not just a place with tasty gopchang. The gopchang quality is good, and with the tripe salad and bean sprout ramen thrown in, the value feels even better.

What's in the mixed grill at Hyewon Sogopchang, and how does it taste?
The gopchang arrives pre-grilled, so there's a bit of a wait, but the upside is that it's easy to eat. And here it finally comes, the mixed grill! Yay!

The beef gopchang in the mixed grill is really full of gop (the creamy fat inside), so the richer, nutty flavor builds the more you chew. It isn't tough and has just the right bounce, so it's perfect with drinks.

The mixed grill has gopchang, daechang (large intestine) and heart, plus potato and rice cake, so it looks hearty just sitting there. The gopchang is stuffed with gop, and the second I bit in, that rich aroma filled my mouth and my mood shot right up.

Considering beef gopchang prices these days, the portion is decent and the quality is good, so this is a place I'd go back to whenever I want gopchang in Wangsimni.

Roasted sweet pumpkin, crispy potatoes and garlic chives
Roasted sweet pumpkin comes out too. The lineup is totally generous. They also put garlic chives on top and grilled them together for us. Sizzle sizzle!

The potatoes here are seriously amazing. There are lots of them and they're super crispy~ There's even cheese seasoning for dipping the potatoes.

Personally, eating it together with the garlic chives that come as standard was the best combo. No time to feel greasy, you just keep eating!

Is the extra beef gopchang order at Hyewon Sogopchang worth it?
The extra beef gopchang I ordered was full of gop yet crispy on the outside, with a great texture, nutty and really delicious.

If you love gopchang, don't just order the mixed grill. I really recommend an extra order of beef gopchang! Full of gop, crispy outside and juicy inside.

How is the value and atmosphere at Hyewon Sogopchang?
What I liked most about Hyewon Sogopchang was the value. With beef gopchang prices these days, a lot of places feel like a stretch, but for the amount and quality, this was more than satisfying.

I don't think there are many places near Wangsimni where you get a spread like this. Maybe that's why the crowd was so varied, from university students to office team dinners to couples on dates.
The atmosphere is also a bit cleaner and more casual than a typical old-school gopchang joint, without that heavy vibe gopchang places can have. I thought it would be fine for a date too.

Why I recommend Hyewon Sogopchang as a Wangsimni beef gopchang restaurant
If you're looking for a great beef gopchang spot in Wangsimni, I confidently recommend Hyewon Sogopchang.
- Excellent access, about a one-minute walk from Wangsimni Station
- Nutty beef gopchang with no gamey smell
- A quality mixed grill full of gop
- Satisfying price for such a generous spread
- A clean restaurant that works for team dinners and dates
Wangsimni favorite, officially approved! Bang bang bang! Next time I want to properly try the gopchang hot pot and fried rice too. If you want good-value beef gopchang in Wangsimni, go to Hyewon Sogopchang. 100% coming back, kyaaa~~
