With record highs every single day lately, isn't it just exhausting to go out and eat in this heat..?? Because of this record-breaking heatwave, even going out for a meal has felt like such a hassle recently...
But being this hot made me crave something specific. On a hot summer day people usually think of cold noodle dishes like naengmyeon, kongguksu (chilled soy bean noodle soup), or makguksu, but the dish I'm introducing today is mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)! I figured eating a cool bowl of mulhoe would cool my body down and help me recover. While searching for a good mulhoe spot, I found Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch, a well-known restaurant in Yeonsu-dong, and visited for lunch.
Where is Veteran General Fish Market in Yeonsu, and is there parking?
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is located on the 3rd floor of Yeonsu Plaza, 106 Beotkkotro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. It's open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, with last order at 21:00, and both parking and group bookings are available.

This Yeonsu Station favorite has basement parking in the building, so driving is fine, but since Yeonsu Station is right in front, I'd actually recommend taking public transit.

Inside the new 3rd-floor space and its group tables
The Veteran Fish Market Yeonsu branch boasts a clean, spacious interior. It was already nice and roomy on the 2nd floor before, but after the recent move to the 3rd floor it's transformed into an even more polished, stylish space.

There's group seating set up, and the spacing between tables is generous too, so I'd recommend it for group events or work dinners.

My company has group events and work dinners sometimes too, and I think everyone would love it if I brought them here haha

Mulhoe for one person: Veteran's lunch menu and prices
Ordering is done via kiosk.

For lunch there's a lunch special sashimi set that includes sushi, egg rice, and spicy fish stew, plus a la carte options like egg rice or sashimi rice bowl. You can also order the cold mulhoe for just one person.

On a day like today, mulhoe was a must haha
- Mulhoe: ₩18,000 per person
- Lunch special sashimi set (small): ₩13,900
- Sashimi rice bowl: ₩9,000
- Fried king prawns: ₩13,000
- Extra thin wheat noodles

Unlimited kimchi pancake self-bar and salad bar
This Yeonsu Station favorite lets you make your own kimchi pancake (kimchijeon). It's my first time seeing a self-serve pancake bar at a sashimi restaurant haha

It was great that pancakes and other vegetables and wrap greens were unlimited at the salad bar. The kimchijeon batter is already prepared, so you just drizzle a bit of cooking oil and fry it up.

I made a delicious golden-brown pancake.

It was so good I wanted to make more, but once I saw how much food was coming out later, I gave up on making seconds.

Side dishes: salad, seaweed soup and salted pollock roe
Salad came out as a basic side dish. It was refreshing and great for cleansing the palate. The seaweed soup was hot and seasoned just right.

Salted pollock roe (myeongnanjeot), which is rare these days, also came out. The ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) was nutty too, and really delicious paired with the sashimi.

The 13,900-won lunch sashimi set: a full table for one
The dishes kept coming and coming — I thought the table might collapse. I thought I'd ordered wrong ㄷㄷ I was surprised at how generous the portions were, to the point I lost control of how much I could eat. Being able to eat fresh sashimi at a great value in today's economy is amazing.

The lunch special came with spicy fish stew, seasoned egg rice, fried shrimp and sweet potato, and sashimi sushi. Even though it's a single-person set, it was so plentiful and varied that for a moment I wondered if I'd accidentally ordered 2 or 3 portions??

The sashimi was really fresh with excellent texture. Even eating raw fish in summer, the freshness was top-notch~!! One bite just melted in my mouth ㅎ The fried shrimp and sweet potato were also crispy and easy to eat.

How do the mulhoe and sashimi rice bowl taste on a hot day?
And then the cool mulhoe and sashimi rice bowl~ The tangy, rich flavor was outstanding. On a hot summer day, eating something this refreshing brought my body temperature down — nothing beats it for getting through the heat.

I ordered the fried king prawns as an extra, and they were crispy with plump shrimp packed inside haha

The spicy fish stew had a sharp, tasty broth with thick chunks of fish, truly great with rice. Overall the menu lineup was so solid and the portions so generous that ordering three portions could easily feed four people comfortably.
