Yeoksam eel restaurant for late drinks: salt-grilled eel & roe, Chisot
In short
Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant serving charcoal-grilled eel near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer stopped by late in the evening for a second round of drinks and ordered salt-grilled eel (₩35,000) and butter-grilled pollock roe (₩16,000); the salmon sashimi they had planned on was sold out. Even on a full stomach, the eel and pollock roe at Chisot were good enough that the writer wants to eat them again.

Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch: a second round of eel
Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Yeoksam Station known for its eel, so we went for a second round~~ It's famous with office workers too, and the stylish, clean space stood out. The sign is eye-catching even from outside!! I'd recommend it for a date as well.
Chisot in Yeoksam is good for a meal at lunch and for drinking snacks in the evening. It was close to where we had our first round, and the atmosphere was so nice~~ We planned to have eel and salmon, but the salmon was sold out, so we only had eel. I got my stamina boost in Seoul too! Charcoal-scented eel, a Yeoksam office-worker favorite.

Getting to Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch and the exterior
The yellow sign catches your eye, and photos of eel are stuck on the outside, which made my mouth water... even though I was full, I wanted to eat ^^
It's by Exit 7 of Yeoksam Station~~ Easy to find ^^ We didn't know the way, so we turned on the navigation and found it as we walked. We went late, so only one other party was there besides us.

What's the inside of Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch like?
Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch has a classy interior.

It's clean and stylish, and from outside to inside it has the kind of polished feel that would draw office workers on their way home. The kitchen is open, so you can see them grilling the eel and cooking! Spotless, honestly.
Chisot had a self-serve bar where you can eat as much ochazuke (rice with tea or broth poured over) and rice as you like. I was too full to try it, but writing this now, I'm so curious..

How does Chisot grill its eel?
The restaurant has its Japonica eel introduction on display. They say they use only top-grade (grade 1) domestic Japonica freshwater eel, a premium stamina food traditionally served to honored guests. It's aged 72 hours with various vegetables and healthy ingredients for deep savory flavor, and grilled over premium binchotan charcoal with a clean, pure heat that adds a subtle smoky aroma with no gamey smell, maximizing the flavor.
Using the authentic Nagoya-style hitsumabushi (chopped grilled eel over rice) technique, the eel is brushed with tare sauce and grilled over charcoal three times, so it's crispy outside and moist inside. So delicious.

Every table is set with toothpicks, furikake (rice seasoning) and sansho pepper powder.

What did we order as drinking snacks at Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch?
At Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch we ordered the eel for ₩35,000 and the butter-grilled pollock roe for ₩16,000 :) The menu is varied. If you're hungry, I recommend the rice bowls (donburi). We were doing drinking snacks, so I wanted a light salmon sashimi, but it was sold out ㅠㅠ I hear it's also popular as an office lunch.

Three sides to cut the richness! Salty and tangy, they go so well with the eel >.<

Salt-grilled eel, charcoal-grilled three times
At Chisot you can choose the eel with sauce or with salt. We ordered salt, and dipped it in both salt and sauce~~ The eel, grilled three times over charcoal, smells great and tastes great.
A sip of alcohol and a bite of eel gives you a surge of energy!! The look of it is amazing, and I wasn't hungry but now I am. Dip it in soy sauce, salt or sauce to your taste. With onion, or with wasabi, this eel is a great match.

Whatever I dipped it in, it was delicious.. ^^ haha

Butter-grilled pollock roe (mentaiko with cucumber) ₩16,000
Chisot's pollock roe with cucumber is ₩16,000, and it's charming too. I love pollock roe so much that I order it as a drinking snack at bars, but if it's grilled wrong it burns a lot. I tried grilling it at home and failed.

Chisot's grilled pollock roe is so good. A moderately nutty butter aroma, saltiness, crunchy cucumber and savory mayonnaise coming together.

The flavors go together so well. Whoever made this is a genius.

My husband doesn't really like pollock roe, but he ate it well~~!!! A healthy snack that's great with drinks, I recommend it!!
