The writer stopped by with their parents and baby, bought 4 potato breads and 12 jjondeugi (chewy snack sticks), and liked the roomy shop, the Mustoy photo spot and the not-too-sweet potato bread. Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread is a good place to pick up gift snacks on a Sokcho family trip with a baby and grandparents.
Mentsuru City Hall Branch is a ramen and abura soba (soupless mixed noodle) shop in Jung-gu, Seoul, near City Hall Station and within walking distance of Deoksugung Palace. After the Deoksugung Palace night opening, the writer and a cousin ordered Mentsuru's signature abura soba with an extra egg topping and a side of chicken skin gyoza. The noodles were springy and not too salty, and with no broth to worry about puffiness after a late meal, Mentsuru City Hall Branch made a satisfying stop on a Deoksugung night-opening outing.
Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch (김씨치킨 수유시장점) is a dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy glazed fried chicken) and old-style whole fried chicken shop inside Suyu Market in Gangbuk, Seoul, known as one of the city's 'big three' dakgangjeong spots. On a first weekend-afternoon visit to Suyu Market, the writer took away an extra-large dakgangjeong at the hottest spice level, which was weighed on a scale and then piled high above the box; the dakgangjeong started sweet and the heat built toward the end. For a generous, clean-tasting market dakgangjeong, the extra-large hottest-level order at Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch was a satisfying choice.
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a neighborhood bakery near Jongno 3-ga, at 65 Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul. On her fifth visit, on a busy weekend, the writer went to Munhwa Bakery for a rice loaf for her baby, forgot the rice loaf entirely, and came home with coffee bread for herself and a garlic baguette for her husband. Munhwa Bakery's breads are big for the price, which makes it a good-value bakery she keeps returning to.
