Wondang café after swimming: mango juice & chocolate tart, Baedagol

Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스) is a large bakery café in Wondang-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, with a 1st floor, a 2nd floor and an outdoor garden. On a weekday afternoon after swimming, the writer and a child stopped at Baedagol Bakery House for Fresh Mango Wareureu Juice, Iced Tea Blossom and a chocolate tart, then explored the sandpit and woodland tables hidden behind the garden. With kids, Baedagol Bakery House's garden is a good spot to sip coffee while watching them play in the sand.

Chilly-day bossam lunch with my sister in Goyang: Park Man-bae Arirang

Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam, Wonheung Station Branch is a gabrisal (pork shoulder-cap cut) bossam restaurant on the ground floor of Topclassic Officetel, right outside Exit 2 of Wonheung Station in Goyang. For lunch with a sister just back from the US, the writer ordered a small half kimchi, half cabbage bossam (₩42,000) and, on a chilly day, picked the complimentary seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) with clams and crab. Tender gabrisal, sweet radish kimchi and a better-than-expected free kalguksu made Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam a hearty, satisfying meal.

Kalguksu restaurant in Oido, Siheung: chive pancake to go, 52 Degree

52 Degree Kalguksu Oido Main Branch (오십이도칼국수 오이도본점) is a seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Oido, Jeongwang-dong, Siheung. On the way to a Yeongheungdo trip with the kids, the family ordered seafood tongkalguksu for 2, a chive pancake and extra kalguksu noodles, and the staff even prepared the crab so the children could eat comfortably. 52 Degree Kalguksu made a satisfying family lunch, good enough that the leftover chive pancake went home to be dinner at the lodging.

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a Pyeongyang-style dumpling restaurant on Jimok-ro in Paju, near Lotte Outlet. On an early weekday evening with two kids, the writer had a clear-broth Pyeongyang mandu hot pot for 2 and mulmakguksu (cold buckwheat noodles in broth), then took the leftover dumplings home to steam. With high chairs, a self-service corner and a dessert corner in the waiting area, Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a good fit for family meals with kids.

Paju Chinese restaurant after a kids' café: jjajang & large dontang

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a newly opened Chinese restaurant near Simhaksan in Paju, Gyeonggi, that serves jjajang (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) on sizzling stone plates. After a weekday at a kids' café in Unjeong, the writer and the children had nurungji stone jjajang for 2 and a large dontang (fried pork) for dinner. The noodles stayed firm to the last bite, the nurungji (scorched rice) at the bottom was a highlight, and the leftover dontang went home in a box. Verdict: Dolpanseok Jjamppong is a place worth returning to for family meals with kids.

Ilsan kalguksu restaurant for a post-swim lunch with kids: Daejong

Daejong Kalguksu Ilsan Main Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant said to be run by three generations, on the first floor of Eastern City near Jeongbalsan Station and Western Dom in Ilsan, Goyang. After a child's swimming lesson, the family sat at the shoes-off floor seating and had clam kalguksu (11,000 won), beef belly bibim kalguksu (12,000 won) and handmade meat mandu (10,000 won), and high chairs, a self-serve bar and a parking tower made lunch with a child easy. Daejong Kalguksu Ilsan Main Branch is a great Jeongbalsan Station lunch spot for enjoying both noodle soup and bibim noodles with kids.
