Sinsa Chinese restaurant with a friend: abalone jjamppong, Samsin
In short
Samsin Garosu-gil is a newly opened fusion Chinese restaurant on Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, blending Korean, Chinese and Japanese cooking. The writer and a friend booked through Naver, sat in the 3rd-floor open hall and ate Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), East Sea seafood jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and stone-pot Chinese bibimbap, and received opening-gift gongalppang (hollow puffed bread) and a glowing coaster for their Kirin beer. With big abalone in the jjamppong and sauce poured over the tangsuyuk at the table, Samsin Garosu-gil delivered on both atmosphere and food.

What kind of Chinese restaurant is Samsin Garosu-gil?
Samsin Garosu-gil (삼신 가로수길점) is a new fusion Chinese restaurant on Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, serving the appeal of Korean, Chinese and Japanese food in Samsin's own way. I was looking for a Chinese restaurant in Sinsa with a nice atmosphere and went with a friend. It was surprising that a place like this had opened on Garosu-gil, and since it gives familiar Chinese dishes a slightly different twist, I was really curious.

Inside Samsin Garosu-gil: the atmosphere and private rooms
The space is split over the 2nd and 3rd floors, and the moment I walked in I could feel how upscale it was.

Mint green and wood tones blend with an Oriental touch, so the whole place feels calm yet classy. There are private rooms too, and when I visited a family was holding a gathering in one.

Menu and how to order at Samsin Garosu-gil
There is a menu board at the entrance, and it covers everything from various fusion dishes to Chinese course meals and meal items. Ordering was easy with a QR code.

Naver reservation and the 3rd-floor open hall table
Since I had booked ahead on Naver, I just gave my name and was shown straight to the 3rd-floor open hall! The gold tableware and napkins matched the restaurant's mood, a classy setting. I'd come in casually, so I was a little surprised at how much more upscale it was, with every detail nicely done 🫣

Opening-event welcome food: gongalppang
While I looked over the menu, I found that Samsin Garosu-gil was serving gongalppang (hollow puffed bread), baked in-house, as welcome food for its opening. They say the hollow inside carries Samsin's meaning: leaving room for good fortune to come in.

What we ordered as friends: seafood jjamppong, stone-pot bibimbap and Tokyo tangsuyuk
Soon the East Sea seafood jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), stone-pot Chinese bibimbap and Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) we ordered began to arrive on the table one by one.

Kirin beer and the coaster that changes color
When I ordered Kirin beer, a staff member brought a coaster to set the mood, and when I put the beer on it, it changed color and sparkled! I liked that they pay attention to small touches like this.

What is the Tokyo tangsuyuk like?
The first dish out at Samsin Garosu-gil was the Tokyo tangsuyuk! They pour the sauce on right in front of you, and with the sizzling sound and the little performance it looked even more appetizing 👍
The crispy fried pork comes with a sweet and sour sauce, and the pieces are big, so the portion was more generous than I expected.

East Sea seafood jjamppong: how big is the abalone?
The East Sea seafood jjamppong looked packed with seafood, and I was surprised by how big the abalone was. The other seafood was plump too, which probably explains the refreshing, clean-tasting broth I liked!

The ingredients were so generous that it felt like they hadn't skimped on the seafood, and while eating I thought they use good ingredients 👏

Stone-pot Chinese bibimbap
The stone-pot Chinese bibimbap came in a hot stone pot loaded with rice and plenty of ingredients. Served in the stone pot, it stayed warm, and mixing the rice and ingredients together added a savory depth, making it a filling meal!

Is Samsin Garosu-gil good for a family gathering or a special meal?
Samsin Garosu-gil is a Garosu-gil Chinese restaurant where the classy atmosphere makes you feel properly looked after the moment you walk in. From the Tokyo tangsuyuk to the seafood jjamppong and stone-pot Chinese bibimbap, every dish was generous and tasty. The jjamppong with big pieces of seafood and the Tokyo tangsuyuk sauced right before your eyes made eating fun too!
The mood is good, and with private rooms and group seating, if you're looking for a family gathering or special meal on Garosu-gil, you might enjoy a good time with tasty food at Samsin Garosu-gil 🤭
