Yeouido IFC Mall non-spicy combo set with five fritters: Hyeonseonine

I got shopping at The Hyundai Seoul and suddenly got hungry, so I stopped by Hyeonseonine, my tteokbokki go-to! It's the kind of place that's always exactly as good as I remember it. It just feels like the textbook definition of a Korean snack restaurant — generous portions for the price, good flavor, and always busy, which is probably why so many people already know about it.

Finding Hyeonseonine tteokbokki inside IFC Mall, Yeouido

It sits right in the middle of the passage connecting The Hyundai Seoul and IFC Mall Premium. There's a GS convenience store right next to it, so it's easy to find! Being connected to the subway makes it very accessible too.

Hyeonseonine, one of Seoul's three great tteokbokki spots, started in Yongsan and now has about 6 branches nationwide. The Yeouido location is perfect for curing hunger mid-shopping trip. Because it's close to Yeouido Hangang Park, a lot of customers grab their order to go.

Hyeonseonine is my real go-to whenever I crave tteokbokki..! The freshly boiled uncooked tteokbokki is delicious, and the combo set with fritters and sundae is satisfying too. Hyeonseonine's fritters and sundae are both pretty well-made, so I tend to order the combo.

There are four 4-person tables and four 2-person tables. It was past mealtime so there was no one around, but right after I walked in, the place filled right up. (Like the Pied Piper, ha.)

Every branch is company-operated, so there's no difference from one location to the next — that's one of the reasons I love Hyeonseonine.

Pickled radish, salt, soy sauce and the like are self-serve, take as much as you like. The thin pickled radish is nice and crunchy, a pass!

Ordering the Hyeonseoni Combo Set non-spicy

The Hyeonseoni Combo arrived on a tray. It's a broth-heavy style tteokbokki, so it's great for dipping the fritters, sundae and mini gimbap into.

Hyeonseonine tteokbokki comes in three spice levels: mild, medium, and hot. Today I wanted to enjoy the mellow side of tteokbokki rather than the spice, so I went mild! I usually get medium, and even medium finishes with a nice kick that's delicious.

Juicy handmade sundae (Korean blood sausage)

Not the dry, frozen-sundae feel at all — this is Hyeonseonine-style sundae, moist and soft and packed with seasoned filling. The soft texture is great for dipping into the tteokbokki.

As a gimbap lover, I'd be disappointed if the mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) wasn't included. It's loaded with sesame seeds, so nutty and delicious.

What comes in the five-kind fritter platter

Squid fritter, gimmari, vegetable fritter, sweet potato fritter, and mandu fritter come together as a mixed platter, which makes for plenty of fun eating — the squid fritter especially is plump and delicious. Fritters can also be added as an à la carte item.

The gimmari, just as moist as the sundae, is another must-eat item on the menu.

A Pepsi Zero comes included with the tteokbokki set.

Enough for two: wheat rice cakes in a spoonable broth

It's technically a 2-person set, but the portion is more than enough for two. The tteokbokki uses wheat rice cakes, so it really soaks up all the sauce.

The plump mini gimbap, packed with ham, crab stick, spinach, egg, and pickled radish, is a real treat. Loaded with sesame oil and sesame seeds, the nuttiness just bursts!

The liver that comes with the sundae is moist too, delicious even eaten plain. A place that nails the sides as much as the tteokbokki itself!

Hyeonseonine, a Yeouido tteokbokki favorite, has such generous broth that you really have to eat it with a spoon for the full experience! 🔥🔥🔥
