Gyukatsu restaurant near Seongsu Station with parking tips: Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (deep-fried beef cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a building on Yeonmujang 7-ga-gil, near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. A married couple came for lunch and ordered the tenderloin gyukatsu at 24,000 won and the tsukune don (grilled chicken meatball rice bowl) at 17,000 won, and the tenderloin was tender enough for someone with weak teeth to eat comfortably. Gyuen Dang has no parking of its own, so the couple used the paid SK V1 Tower lot by Seongsu Station.

Hello, this is Oyu Couple. This time we were trying to decide what to eat for lunch near Seongsu Station and ended up going for Japanese-style gyukatsu (beef cutlet). Honestly, gyukatsu is basically beef you grill on a hot plate yourself, so you kind of already know what to expect, right? So we went in without high expectations, but it ended up being way more delicious than we thought and we were genuinely surprised! For anyone looking for lunch spots near Seongsu Station, here's our honest review of the gyukatsu and rice bowl menu at Gyuen Dang Seongsu that stood out from the rest :)

Inside Gyuen Dang: seating and atmosphere

The Gyuen Dang restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building.

We visited during lunchtime and the place was packed, so we couldn't take interior photos. The restaurant isn't huge, but it has that cozy, warm feel of a Japanese home-style diner. (We'd recommend booking ahead through Naver!) There's also bar seating, so it looks like a decent option for solo diners too.

Tenderloin gyukatsu, 24,000 won: tender enough for weak teeth
We ordered tenderloin gyukatsu for ₩24,000 and tsukune don for ₩17,000. Most gyukatsu places just offer a single gyukatsu option, but Gyuen Dang lets you choose between tenderloin and striploin. Curious, we went with the tenderloin, and the verdict — good call!

[Tenderloin gyukatsu] The gyukatsu comes cut into bite-sized pieces with a thin layer of breading on the outside, and honestly just looking at it made our mouths water. It's served with salad, a light broth, salt, wasabi, and a soy-based sauce.

Isigny butter comes with it too. We melted the butter a bit first, then set a couple of pieces of meat on top :p

We lightly seared the outside on the tabletop grill and took a bite with just a touch of salt.
We figured it'd just taste like grilled beef since it's gyukatsu, but wow..! Being tenderloin, it was incredibly soft!! The outside was nicely seared and savory, while the inside was moist and tender, letting the clean, mild flavor of the tenderloin really come through.

My wife's teeth have gotten a bit weaker lately, so chewing food has sometimes been uncomfortable for her — but she tried this tenderloin gyukatsu and was thrilled at how genuinely easy it was to eat because it was so soft. If you have sensitive teeth or just love tender meat, you have to try the tenderloin option haha.

Tsukune rice bowl, 17,000 won: mixed with raw egg
[Tsukune don] This is a rice bowl topped with tender chicken tsukune (minced chicken patties).

Crack the raw egg that comes with it over the rice and mix it all together :p

The chicken itself was really moist and soft, making it easy to scoop up with rice on a spoon. The sweet sauce soaked nicely into both the chicken and the rice, with a slight spicy kick coming through afterward, so it was easy to keep eating without getting sick of it.

The gyukatsu is all about the clean, savory flavor of the beef, while the tsukune don's highlight is the sweet-spicy sauce, so alternating between the two worked out perfectly.
Is Gyuen Dang worth it for lunch near Seongsu Station?
We honestly didn't have high expectations for the gyukatsu going in, but the tenderloin turned out to be so soft and delicious that it really stuck with us. In particular, the tender texture of the tenderloin made me think it'd be easy even for people who usually find tough meat off-putting. The sweet and spicy tsukune don, with its tender chicken and sauce combo, was also solid, so this is a place we'd recommend for lunch near Seongsu Station :) If you're looking for a Japanese menu close to Seongsu Station, give Gyuen Dang Seongsu a try!
