Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is a fresh beef galbi restaurant on the Jongno side of Dongseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu. Two people ordered the Uiseong garlic fresh galbi (500g, ₩58,000), grilled by the staff and dipped in garlic sauce. The meal came with complimentary sides such as Gyeongsang-style pickled chili peppers and steamed beef brisket with bean sprouts, and a doenjang stew to finish, all of which were satisfying. With neat side dishes and a pleasant atmosphere, Jangjak Saenggalbi is a Daegu Jongno galbi spot that suits both dates and dinners with parents.

Daegu club alley bar with sweet-and-sour pork: Room Pojangmacha

Room Pojangmacha (룸포장마차) is a pojangmacha-style (Korean street-tent-style) pub in the middle of the club alley in Dongseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu. The night before the Chuseok holiday, four friends ordered draft beer, sweet-and-sour pork, honey butter fries, ex-boyfriend toast and yogurt sherbet at Room Pojangmacha, and the owner added a fruit hwachae bingsu (fruit punch shaved ice) on the house. With meal-sized dishes, fried snacks and desserts on one menu, Room Pojangmacha is a Dongseong-ro bar where you can stay all night without moving on.

Personal-grill pork and octopus sets in Chimsan-dong: Cafe Dongyi

Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch is a Korean home-style restaurant on the ground floor of the Samsung Changjo Campus dormitory building E in Buk-gu, Daegu. Arriving at 2pm on a weekend meant a short wait, and two people ate a personal-grill flame-grilled pork set and a grandma's stir-fried octopus set with kimchi jeon, fried dumplings and a drink for 39,600 won. With unlimited fried eggs, rice, barley snacks and seaweed at the self-serve bar, Cafe Dongyi is an easy place to fill up cheaply.

Hwangnidan-gil restaurant: cockle bibimbap, free buckwheat pancake

Hwangnam Dukkebi Restaurant Hwangnam Main Branch is a Korean restaurant on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, known for its aged kimchi rib stew. Two diners ordered the signature aged kimchi rib stew for two (₩16,900) and Boseong-style kkomak (cockle) bibimbap (₩12,000), and ordering the rib stew brought a free buckwheat pancake on the side.
