Daegu ssambap restaurant, crispy mackerel for a fish-shy mom: Imga-ne

In short

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap (임가네우렁쌈밥) is a Korean set-meal restaurant specialising in snail ssambap (leaf-wrap rice), on Seochon-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu, at the foot of Palgongsan. On a weekday lunch outing with Mom, the writer shared the Dangsindo set for two (boiled pork, snail ssamjang, mackerel and stone pot rice, 34,000 won); even Mom, who doesn't like fish, enjoyed the crispy grilled mackerel, and the wrap greens were refilled several times at the self-serve bar. For a generous, fairly priced spread, the Dangsindo set at Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is a satisfying choice.

The inside is set up so many people can eat together. It has a clean Korean-restaurant feel, so it seemed like a good place to come with family or older relatives.

Since you spread out lots of side dishes, the tables are wide, and it's a great spot whether you come with family or friends. Many people visit with kids, so they have high chairs too.

How does the wrap greens self-serve bar work?

There's a self-serve wrap greens bar, so after you finish what you have, you can bring back as much more as you need. For a snail ssambap place, variety in the greens matters, and with a self-serve setup you can eat comfortably without feeling awkward about asking for more.

Lettuce and perilla leaves were the basics, and there were also some other, different greens.

Dessert is available too: after your meal, you can enjoy coffee and sikhye (sweet rice drink).

The 'Dangsinedo' set for two: a Palgongsan Korean set lunch with Mom

We ordered the 'Dangsinedo' set for two. It comes with boiled pork, snail ssamjang (dipping paste), mackerel and stone pot rice.

You get lots of side dishes plus wrap greens to go with them, so the whole table is filled up.

Bring back whichever greens you like. After we ordered, the table was filled with tasty side dishes. They're good on their own, and the lineup looked like it would go great with freshly cooked stone pot rice too.

Just enjoy the various side dishes. I ordered the boiled pork, mackerel, snail ssamjang and stone pot rice combo, and I was totally satisfied.

Once the main dishes arrived, the table got even more generous!!!

Grilled mackerel that even my fish-averse mom enjoyed

And the grilled mackerel at Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is amazing, right? It's grilled golden, so there's no fishy smell and you can enjoy it to the very end! A soup to go with it came out too!! It's a true Korean set-meal spread and the price is so kind that I plan to come back once more with my husband.

I enjoyed the various dishes with warm, freshly cooked, glossy rice.

So many wraps too!!!! In the end I refilled a few times. Putting rice and snail ssamjang on a wrap is great, and chewing the springy snails along with the boiled pork was so good too. The whole lineup is full of satisfying combinations!

The mackerel was moderately salty and cooked crispy, so my mom, who doesn't really like fish, ate it with gusto.

Finishing with sungnyung (scorched rice tea) from the stone pot

After a tasty meal, there's sungnyung (scorched rice tea) made in the stone pot! Finishing with it, you can feel the meal wrap up nice and filling, right? Not only the full table of main dishes but the side dishes were neat too, so if you're looking for a Korean set meal in Palgongsan, Daegu, I'd recommend Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap.
