Dongpae-dong, Paju café with choco salt bread: Paun Coffee Gyoha
In short
Paun Coffee Gyoha branch is a specialty coffee and bakery café on Chaekhyanggisup-gil in Dongpae-dong, Paju, and the second location of Paun Coffee after the original Unjeong store opened in 2018. On a weekend visit at 12 noon, most of Paun Coffee Gyoha's salt bread and financiers were already sold out, so the last chocolate salt bread (4,300 won) and a hazelnut choco financier (3,500 won) were ordered, along with Americanos made with a choice of acidic or nutty beans. If you want the salt bread or financiers at Paun Coffee Gyoha, arriving at opening time is a must.

The exterior of Paun Coffee Gyoha branch, an Unjeong-area favorite. It's the second branch, newly opened in Dongpae-dong after the original Unjeong branch opened in 2018.

Parking is available in the building where the café is located, with room for up to 2 cars, and roadside parking is also allowed on weekends and holidays.
Window seats for one, tables for two, and the café's vibe

The interior. Even though it's peak summer, the floor-to-ceiling windows aren't too hot because of the shade, and the green street trees outside make for a fresh, lush view. The window bar seating for one is perfect for working on a laptop or reading alone — a really charming spot.

There are also tables mainly for two, and they can be pushed together to fit larger groups.

The interior is modern and stylish, so much so that it feels like you've stepped into a café abroad.

This place is known as a salt bread hotspot where they carefully bake delicious salt bread and financiers with good ingredients, and in the photo you can see the bakery kitchen where they seem to be at work.

A skilled café that serves consistently high-quality coffee every day, and a healing space to boot!

Drinking water is also thoughtfully set up for free self-service use.

There's a restroom inside the café too, so you don't have to step outside, and it was kept clean.

Salt bread and financiers sell out by noon on weekends — an opening-run is a must
By around noon on weekends, most of the salt bread and financiers at Paun Coffee Gyoha branch were already sold out. If there's a particular item you want, it's safer to time your visit for the 9 a.m. opening — an opening-run.

Whoa... we visited around noon on a weekend, and most of the salt bread and financiers were already sold out...ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ

We thought maybe we'd just arrived early and the items hadn't been put out yet, but no — they were already all gone~~!!! The salt bread and financiers here are wildly popular, so if there's something you want, please try to do an opening-run!!

We quickly grabbed the last chocolate salt bread and hazelnut choco financier!!

This place has delicious specialty coffee, and I loved that you can choose beans by acidic or nutty flavor to suit your taste when ordering.
The proprietor, who wanted to really savor the coffee flavor, picked a warm Americano with acidic beans, while Leela, who loves a nutty flavor, chose an iced Americano with nutty beans~!

Warm Americano with acidic beans and iced Americano with nutty beans
The Americano at Paun Coffee Gyoha branch is ₩4,500 a cup, and you can choose between acidic or nutty beans. The acidic option is a blend of three Ethiopian-family beans, while the nutty option is a blend of four beans.

The proprietor's warm Americano with acidic beans, a blend of three Ethiopian-family beans, came with a bean description card that helped with savoring the flavor~!!

As an acidic-coffee lover, the proprietor felt genuinely happy and soothed with every sip..ㅠㅠ (this really is a top-notch café!!) It had a tangy-sweet, multi-fruit flavor with a really clean finish — so delicious~!!
Coffee this high quality for ₩4,500 — isn't that great value?!

Leela's order: an iced Americano with nutty beans.

Made with a blend of four beans, it had a nutty richness and sweet caramel notes as its charm, and Leela, a fan of nutty coffee, gave it a big thumbs-up too!
How the chocolate salt bread and hazelnut choco financier tasted
The chocolate salt bread (₩4,300) had chocolate coating not just on the outside but also chocolate filling inside, and the hazelnut choco financier (₩3,500) was packed with whole hazelnuts.

The chocolate salt bread and hazelnut choco financier.

Chocolate salt bread

First off, the chocolate quality itself is top-notch, and it's not just coated on the outside — cutting into it revealed chocolate filling inside too, so you get a really rich chocolate flavor, which I loved. I figured the chocolate coating might make it a bit soggy, but not at all. It made a crisp snap when I cut it — crispy on the outside, soft and moist inside, full of luxurious butter and chocolate flavor. Such a delicious salt bread!!
I totally understood why an opening-run is a must after tasting this~!! You really have to try this one~!!
Hazelnut choco financier
Packed with whole hazelnuts, it had a great crunchy texture, and thanks to the good chocolate quality, the flavor was rich and luxurious while still being moist.. This financier is legit too~!!
