Wondang bakery café on a busy weekday: chewy walnut bread, Baedagol

I went out to Goyang on a weekday afternoon and looked for a café with good bread and a prettily kept garden, so we ended up at Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스) haha

How to get to Baedagol Bakery House, and where to park

Baedagol Bakery House is roughly between Wondang Station and Wonheung Station, so going by car is much easier. By public transport you take a bus and then walk a bit, so given the location, driving is definitely the way to go.

For parking, there's space for about 10 cars right in front of the shop, and there's another private lot across the road that is huge, wow. Even though it was a weekday afternoon, the lot in front was already full, so we parked across the road and walked over;; If it's like this on a weekday, it must be pretty famous..

The big-bakery vibe starts with the exterior haha The outdoor terrace in the yard has tables placed here and there among the garden, so having coffee outside on a nice day would feel amazing haha

Is Baedagol Bakery House dog-friendly?

Pets are allowed at Baedagol Bakery House, but not in the indoor hall. You can only sit with them at the outdoor garden terrace seats, apparently. Anyone bringing a dog, take note.

Can you get a seat at Baedagol Bakery House on a weekday afternoon?

Even on a weekday afternoon, the 1st floor of Baedagol Bakery House was almost full both outdoors and indoors, and we could only pick a seat after going up to the 2nd floor. When we arrived, the outdoor tables on the 1st floor were nearly all taken, which surprised me;;

Even more surprising, it was packed inside too, haha. The 1st floor had almost no empty seats, and it was a bit roomier upstairs, so we barely managed to pick a table. There were lots of young customers, but especially many older folks, so it seems the bread and atmosphere are well known even among the older generation haha

Restrooms and baby chairs at Baedagol Bakery House

The restroom at Baedagol Bakery House was super clean and neatly kept, which I loved so much..... There are also 2 baby chairs at the restroom entrance, so it looked great for families visiting with a little baby.

The 2nd-floor outdoor terrace: great view, a bit awkward for eating

The 2nd floor of Baedagol Bakery House also has a door leading straight out to an outside terrace. The view was good, but because of the wind and the angle of the table, we ended up going back inside. When I opened the door, wow.. the view was crazy hahahaha It was so nice that we sat outside on the 2nd floor to feel the season, but once we laid out the drinks and bread, the wind blew and the table angle was a little uncomfortable, so we carried everything back inside^^..

The bread display and self-service area

The counter area at Baedagol Bakery House is packed with all kinds of bread, and choosing took forever. I went over to look at the bread and the bakery selection was piled up so full that my eyes spun~? Everything looked delicious, so just choosing took a long time..^^!

Right next to the counter there's a neatly stocked self zone. It has a water purifier, syrup, tissues and takeout bags, and even an oven for warming up bread, so it was handy to use when needed~ Knives, forks and plates are set up right next to the bakery display, so just grab them from there haha

What drinks does Baedagol Bakery House serve?

The drinks at Baedagol Bakery House range from coffee to non-coffee drinks, tea, handmade teas, juice, smoothies and ades, so you can pick whatever suits you. They also sold snowflake bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and since it was fall-winter season, the real sweet potato latte and real chestnut latte, made with sweet potato and roasted chestnuts, caught my eye. But we ordered an americano and a green tea latte, hehe

Salt bread, walnut chalbbang or cheese brioche: which bread wins?

We picked three breads at Baedagol Bakery House: salt bread, walnut chalbbang (chewy walnut bread) and cheese brioche, and the walnut chalbbang took first place. Oh, and I normally love anything cheese, but strangely I didn't reach for the cheese brioche much that day; It tasted fine though!

Honestly, the number one bread for my taste among the three was the walnut chalbbang……! Super chewy and moderately sweet, so good..ㅡ.ㅡ The crispy-outside, chewy-inside texture is crazy, and I'll buy it again when I come back haha

Would I go back, and when to visit

At Baedagol Bakery House the coffee was good, the drinks were pleasantly sweet, and the bread was chewy, so I'm totally satisfied and will definitely come back. Next time I'll grab a table I like in the 1st-floor outdoor garden and relax, hoho Visiting in October to November, when the weather is cool, should feel properly atmospheric...haha Anyway, this Goyang café tour was a total success 👍🏻
