Buttery potato and plain salt bread, family of 4 devours 4: Cafe Cozy

Lately I've been having so much fun checking out all the new spots popping up in Songdo one by one hahaha. This time I went to the newly opened Cafe Cozy Bear.

If you love salt bread, the name alone makes it hard to just walk past lol. I love salt bread so much myself that as soon as I heard a new place opened, I got curious right away, and cutting to the chase... it was so good.

And the funnier part is, we clearly packed it up to take home, but the four of us just sat down and ate it all right there lolol. Truly gone in seconds...

Let me show you what the salt bread looks like fresh out of the oven first... honestly even now, writing this post, I'm drooling. That buttery, moist inside inside there — you just can't resist it.

Cafe Cozy Bear's location and the 3+1 event

It's near the hagwon (cram school) district in Gonggu 1, close to a chicken kalguksu place we like haha. Since it just opened, they're running a 3+1 event! With that going on, you have to buy three, right, ha.

This is the sign for when the bread comes out. You know how good freshly baked bread is when you time it right, don't you?

The coffee seems to be made with good beans too. I'd already had a lot of coffee that day, so I passed on it.

Takeaway: 3 plain salt breads + 1 potato salt bread

That day we packed 3 plain salt breads and 1 potato salt bread, four in total. At first I thought, "this should last us a while at home," but nope... the second we opened the bag, everyone started grabbing one after another and it was gone in no time lol.

Even the kids took one bite and kept eating while saying "it's so good!" Usually when we buy bread they take a bite or two and leave the rest, but the reaction was totally different this time. They were eating more eagerly than mom and dad lol. In the end, all four disappeared in a flash. I genuinely regretted not buying more...

I want to shove every freshly baked one straight into my mouth, ha.

This would also make a lovely little gift when wrapped up nicely. I'm planning to give some to friends and coworkers I'm grateful to soon.

What are the seats like?

The store isn't huge, but there's space to sit for a bit and enjoy bread with coffee haha. The weather's gotten cooler lately too, so you can sit at those outdoor tables. Being in a hagwon district, it seems perfect for a quick snack.

Not crisp-and-light — fully buttery style

The first thing I thought while eating Cafe Cozy Bear's salt bread was that the butter flavor is genuinely intense. Salt bread styles vary a lot these days. Some places emphasize a super crisp exterior with an overall light, clean flavor, while others go for a strong butter aroma with a nutty, heavy feel — Cafe Cozy Bear is clearly the latter.

Highly recommend for anyone who loves buttery salt bread. One bite and the butter aroma spreads right through your mouth, followed by the salty hit on top of it — the butter-plus-salt combo is no joke lol. It's not just a faint hint of butter, it's a clear "yes, there's butter in here!!!" kind of presence haha.

So personally, I think people who prefer a rich, nutty style over a light, clean salt bread will be much happier here.

Walking home hugging the bread bag is always a little thrilling.

But I couldn't hold back and ate one in the car... lol. I was nervous about crumbs falling in the car, but eating came first, ha.

The potato salt bread has its own quiet charm

We tried the potato salt bread too, and it was pretty tasty as well. If the plain version hits you straight on with butter flavor, the potato one adds a bit more heartiness and softness. The potato's cozy texture went surprisingly well with the buttery flavor.

That said, it's not overly heavy or complex compared to the plain — it just adds a slightly different charm to the base salt bread haha. So if it's your first visit, I'd recommend mixing it up like we did: several plain ones plus one other kind.

Plain salt bread — the basics really are the scariest

In the end, plain salt bread was my favorite. Salt bread really has to nail the basics, right? Without adding a bunch of extras, if the butter aroma, the bread's own nuttiness, and the salt's savoriness all line up properly, that's really all it needs.

Cafe Cozy Bear's plain nailed exactly that combo. The more you chew, the more intense the butter flavor gets, and the salty hits coming in between make you want another bite. It can get a little heavy from the butter, but the salt's sharpness keeps it balanced, so it doesn't get old as fast as you'd expect.

So after finishing one, you end up thinking "should I have just one more?" The problem was my family had the exact same thought lolol.

So glad a place like this opened in the neighborhood

I don't know why, but it's always such a relief when a genuinely good bakery opens nearby these days. Especially when it's not somewhere you have to travel far to reach — when it's right in your neighborhood, the first thought is "oh, I can come here all the time now" haha.

Cafe Cozy Bear had exactly that feeling. Not a one-and-done spot, but a "yeah, I'll definitely keep coming back here" kind of place. I've already mentally planned to go weekly and pack a huge haul lol. This time we bought way too little. Next time, at least double... actually, I should just stock up properly.

How's the parking?

There's a parking lot across the street, but surprisingly a lot of people park along the curb between the shops in parallel spots. Probably because there are still a lot of empty storefronts around.

To sum up, Cafe Cozy Bear's salt bread is especially recommended for people who prefer a bold, buttery, salty style over the crisp, light kind. The butter flavor is unmistakable, and paired with the salt it's such a good combo that you keep reaching for more once you start.

The plain salt bread was delicious, and the potato one had its own cozy charm too. Most of all, the fact that a family of four demolished all four we packed right there on the spot means, by our household's standards, the taste test is already complete lolol.

I'm just so happy a place like this opened in Songdo. From now on I won't just buy one or two — I'll pack a huge haul haha. Going again soon 🥐
