While planning a trip through eastern Jeju, I heard about a beautifully plated, tidy charcoal-grilled BBQ spot and had to check it out. The name is Woljeongri Galbibap (월정리갈비밥) — even the name itself pulled me in. I couldn't wait to eat some galbibap.

It sits back in an alley near Woljeongri Beach, so it's a perfect route to grab a meal after having fun at the beach. There are also lots of accommodations nearby, so I'd recommend pairing this into your itinerary.

How to park in the narrow alley at Woljeongri Galbibap

There's space for about 4–5 cars right in front of Woljeongri Galbibap. The exterior is a stylishly remodeled house, giving off a distinctive, atmospheric feel from the entrance onward. That said, the alley in front of the lot is a bit narrow, so it's worth backing your car in when you arrive — makes leaving much easier later.

At Woljeongri Galbibap you order before stepping through the entrance. We ordered three Set A meals along with the free kids' rice bowl. Set B comes with delicious seasoned marinated crab, so if you love crab, Set B is the way to go.

For reference, the restaurant offers one free kids' rice bowl for children aged 24 months through second grade of elementary school. That kind of thoughtful care for families with kids seems to be part of why it's known as a Woljeong-ri favorite. When ordering the sets, you can freely choose the meat flavor — one soy, one spicy, one half-and-half — to suit everyone's taste.

Stepping inside Woljeongri Galbibap, I found a clean white-toned interior that felt bright and comfortable throughout. The space is well divided into sections, making it easy to enjoy a quiet meal.

There's also a quiet two-person table facing the window, which I found really appealing. High chairs are available too, making the place well suited for families with children.

The free kids' rice bowl came with meat and ingredients cut into small, easy-to-eat pieces, and the seasoning was mild rather than strong, so my child really enjoyed it.

A generous full-table spread came together. Along with the 8 side dishes, a crisply grilled seafood pancake arrived first — the banchan were all clean-tasting and delicious, and every one of them was refillable, which was great. The bean sprout salad, quail egg braise, and sweet kabocha squash salad especially suited my taste, and I kept reaching for them.

On a round, wide plate, decorated with a cute dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue), the abalone butter grill and the soy and spicy charcoal-grilled meats were beautifully arranged.

The abalone butter grill, topped lightly with garlic, had a deep flavor that made me smile the moment I took a bite. The main meats were all charcoal-grilled, giving off a subtle smoky aroma, and they were even better wrapped in lettuce as ssam. Both the salty soy sauce and the sweet-spicy red seasoning were appealing, making this a Woljeong-ri favorite that adults and kids alike can enjoy.

Is Woljeongri Galbibap worth a stop in Gujwa?

Overall, it was a satisfying meal — a tidy full-table spread served in an atmospheric setting. With the free kids' meal, attentive and kind service, and clean food composition, this is well worth a visit if you're looking for delicious Korean food while traveling through Gujwa or eastern Jeju.
