Today I’m introducing Chagane Ssam Bap, a great ssam bap (rice wrapped in leafy vegetables) set restaurant near Gil Hospital in Guwol-dong, Incheon..! A huge recommendation for anyone who loves ssam bap~
Chagane Ssam Bap near Gil Hospital

Chagane Ssam Bap is located near Gil Hospital. It’s a popular lunch spot that fills up at lunchtime. There’s a dedicated parking lot right next door, with room for about 5–6 cars.

The interior is very spacious. There are plenty of tables too, so it’s OK for gatherings or lunch groups ᵒᵏ ᵎᵎᵎᵎ

Maybe because there’s no separate break time, customers kept coming in even after the lunchtime rush~ I imagine it gets a full-on wait at lunch.

The window area inside is filled with succulents grown by the owner~ They’ve been grown so beautifully! It feels like stepping into a succulent farm 🌿

Chagane Ssam Bap menu and spicy pork ssam bap set

At Chagane Ssam Bap, wraps are unlimited as standard. There are lots of ssam bap sets to choose from according to your taste: spicy pork, webfoot-octopus spicy pork, squid spicy pork, beef bulgogi, squid, and even a meat-free whelk ssam bap set. You can order for one person too, so dining solo is easy! Love that.

The griddle dishes are made without oil, so they sounded like they’d be nice and light. We ordered two spicy pork ssam bap sets :)

There’s water in the refrigerator, and you can pick up wrap vegetables from the central self-service area. There’s also yagwanmun tea, coffee, and sungnyung (scorched-rice infusion) 👍

I thought it was so interesting that they even had yagwanmun tea~ I drank some sungnyung before the meal, and it was wonderfully nutty. Ta-da—our order arrived.
The side dishes were set out, along with the lightly griddle-cooked spicy pork, and the whole table was full 🤩 The aroma of stir-fried pork was drifting up, and wow, it smelled amazing. Instant mouthwatering~😋

It’s made with a beef-bone broth loaded generously with ingredients, plus aged seasoning—how could it possibly not be delicious~!?

A table full of side dishes and whelk ssamjang
The selection of side dishes that comes with it is great too.

Along with rice, miyeok-guk (seaweed soup), and ssamjang with whelk, there was everything from kimchi pancake to sweet-potato-stem japchae, stir-fried potatoes, kimchi, and seasoned pickled cucumber. So many side dishes, all neat and delicious. The seasoning was just right :)

Especially this ssamjang with whelk in it! Each person gets one, and it was generous in portion, not too salty, and so tasty.

Wrapping spicy pork in self-service vegetables
We brought back fresh wrap vegetables from the self-service bar. There were perilla leaves, lettuce, celery, chicory, red beet leaves, red chard, and young napa cabbage leaves—such a fresh, varied selection that I loved it..! Totally the older generation’s kind of place 😎
The spicy stir-fried pork was cooked so appetizingly..! Korean soul food. There’s nothing better for lunch, especially with wraps~🤗 It wasn’t too salty even on its own, and the seasoning was absolutely spot-on! Cabbage, chives, and onion made it even more substantial.

Changing up the different wraps made it fun and delicious to enjoy all those different flavors~ The magic of being able to keep eating wraps 🙈 And the finishing touch, especially, was the whelk ssamjang..!!
It wasn’t overly salty, so it tasted good even by itself. There was quite a lot left, so I mixed it into rice—and it was delicious~

We ate so well from this table full of food—Chagane Ssam Bap is my recommendation for anyone wanting a hearty Korean meal near Gil Hospital! Great value and great flavor, so I was very satisfied. Recommended! 👍
