Clean sundae soup by Juan Station, Incheon: Suraok Sundaeguk

I recently visited Suraok Sundaeguk (수라옥순대국) near Juan Station. Sundaeguk (Korean sausage soup) can be a love-it-or-hate-it dish because of its distinctive off smell, you know. But when I tried it that day, everything from the sundae to the broth was clean-tasting and delicious. The restaurant was spacious and neat, and it was right in front of Juan Station, so it was easy to find.

Suraok Sundaeguk by Juan Station: location and parking

Suraok Sundaeguk is about 36 m from Exit 6 of Juan Station. It is really close to the station, so it was easy to get there. If you are driving, you can use the underground parking lot at the Seongsim Korean Medicine Clinic building next door, with two hours of free parking.

A neat exterior that caught my eye

Since it is right in front of Juan Station, it was not hard to find. The exterior was neat too, so it caught my eye even though it was my first visit.

A spacious, well-organized interior

Once I went in, the restaurant was more spacious than I expected. It had an overall clean, orderly atmosphere, feeling a little more polished and neat than a typical sundae soup restaurant.

Side dishes and the self-service bar

Before the food arrived, the basic side dishes came out first: kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), chives, ssamjang (savory dipping paste), salted shrimp, onion, and chili peppers. I liked that they were served neatly on one plate.

I added chives and salted seafood to my sundae soup, and as expected, this combination went really well together.

The sundae and sundae soup I tried

Extra Sundae Set

The extra sundae set came with sundae, liver, and meat. First of all, I liked that there was no off smell. The sundae was clean-tasting, and the meat and liver were moist rather than dry. I especially liked the liver. It was nice to be able to try the liver and meat along with the sundae.

Skinless Sundae

I also tried the skinless sundae. As the name suggests, it had no casing, so it was definitely easier to eat. It still had sundae’s characteristic flavor but was soft to eat, so this was delicious too.

Spicy Sundaeguk

The spicy sundae soup had a pleasantly sharp, spicy broth and was delicious. It would be a good choice if you like a spicy broth.

Sundae-only Sundaeguk

The sundae-only soup had a clean, delicious broth. Above all, I do not really like it when sundae soup has that distinctive smell, and what I liked most was that the dishes I had that day did not have an off smell that bothered me.

The broth was not overly heavy or murky either; it was on the clean side. So compared with the sundae soup I usually have, it felt like I was eating a slightly more refined version.

A clean place to eat, even if you are sensitive to off smells

It was easy to find because it is right in front of Juan Station, and the restaurant was spacious and clean, making it a comfortable place for a meal. Most of all, I liked that there was barely any off smell from the sundae or sundae soup. If, like me, you are sensitive to sundae soup’s distinctive aroma, I thought this was a perfectly good place for a clean-tasting meal. I tried several dishes myself that day and enjoyed everything overall. I would like to recommend it to anyone looking for a clean sundae soup restaurant near Juan Station.
