Gukbo Garden in Samseong-dong had both a luxurious atmosphere and great service — a place I'd recommend for family dinners, wedding invitation gatherings, or birthday get-togethers. Besides Americano, yulmu tea, and omija tea, there was Yoajeong for dessert too, which made it even more satisfying.

If you note a birthday or wedding invitation gathering when booking, they say they'll give seaweed soup plus a banner for birthdays, and champagne for wedding invitation gatherings. Visiting for a wedding invitation gathering would be really nice.

I booked a day ahead and visited, and it was crazy how customers kept streaming in nonstop. It was a weekday evening, so honestly, if I hadn't booked I probably wouldn't have gotten to eat.

Side dishes like a hanjeongsik spread, plus seasoned crab
True to an upscale restaurant, Gukbo Garden's side dishes came out varied and neat, like a hanjeongsik (Korean table d'hôte) spread.

There was also yangnyeom gejang (soy-marinated seasoned crab), which was seriously a rice thief.
The side dishes were so good it felt like being at a hanjeongsik meal, and it made the whole meal feel even more generous.

Gukbo beef marinated galbi ₩45,000, prime Angus
Gukbo beef marinated galbi is ₩45,000. It's top 8% prime Angus marinated galbi, and ordering 2 servings brought out two big chunks.

Maybe because it was top 8% prime Angus, the marbling and meat quality both looked excellent.

0.3% premium YBD Korean pork, 1++ No.9 Korean beef, vegetables direct from the farm, charcoal burned twice, Sindongjin geum rice from Hampyeong, Jeollanam-do, salted shrimp from Sinan, Mokpo, handmade seasoned crab, British royal Maldon salt, naturally fermented Gyeongju doenjang. Just reading this list tells you how serious they are about ingredients.
Since they use good rice, I ordered hot pot rice instead of regular steamed rice, and it had chickpeas mixed in. One bite and the shine and chewiness really stood out. After finishing, they even made scorched rice (nurungji) from the leftover.

Staff grilling service and side accompaniments
A staff member grills the galbi on twice-burned charcoal, so thanks to the grilling service we could relax and chat comfortably, and since the grill plate seemed good, the meat cooked evenly without burning.
They cut the meat into easy bite-sized pieces, and once cooked, laid it out on a plate like this for easy eating. Even in photos you can feel how tender and juicy it looks.
Since it's marinated galbi, it went really well with tangy-sweet pickled onions rather than salt.

This garlic sauce was also really delicious.

Personally, what I liked best was the pickled shredded chili peppers. It cut through the greasiness of the meat and made every bite feel refreshing.

It was so delicious that I savored every single piece, and thanks to that I enjoyed it deliciously down to the very last bite.

Yoajeong ice cream and choco shell, the free dessert corner
After finishing the meal, we went to the dessert corner, and there was Yoajeong ice cream, Americano, milk coffee, omija tea, and yulmu tea. Wow, all of this is free?

What's even more amazing is that Yoajeong alone is already great, but they thoughtfully had choco shell too.

When eating the choco shell, mix it all together. So good!
With its elegant pine-wood interior, neat side dishes, and delicious meat, Gukbo Garden is a standout restaurant in Samseong-dong, Gangnam. If you're taking your parents out for good meat, looking for a wedding invitation gathering or meeting-the-in-laws venue, or want an upscale restaurant, give it a visit.
