I love pastries, so I visited Stack Bakery (스택베이커리), a Ttukseom Hangang Park favorite that really nails that crispy texture. It's a bakery café built around croissants and French pastries made in-house, and it already has a reputation as a must-try spot.
Where is Stack Bakery, and where can you park?
Stack Bakery is at 5 Ttukseom-ro 31-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on the 1st and 2nd floors. Leave Konkuk Univ. Station by Exit 5, turn so the exit is behind you, take the first alley behind you and just keep going straight. It's easy to find.

If you come by car, you can use the nearby Jayang 4-dong public parking lot, but the parking fee is separate.

Which pastries does Stack Bakery sell?
They say the team puts care into everything, from mixing the dough to baking, every morning before dawn. You'll find freshly baked pastries like the plain croissant with real butter flavor, the kaya croissant filled with kaya jam (coconut egg jam) and gourmet butter, kouign-amann (caramelized layered pastry), pain au chocolat and more.

Seoul's best croissant! Seriously, just walking past the shop, a wonderfully nutty, buttery smell drifts out.
Inside Stack Bakery near Ttukseom Hangang Park

The croissant, basic of the basics, is the No. 1 bestseller at Stack Bakery,

and it looked crisp outside and moist inside.

There were plenty of drinks to go with the bread, and they have sandwiches too, so it works nicely as a meal replacement.

If you buy in sets of 4, they pack the bread in a box, which makes it a lovely casual gift. And if you write a review on Naver or KakaoMap, you get a free salty choco financier!

Ugh, how could you possibly walk past this and not eat it? There were lots of new takes on the croissant, and mostly pastries.

Does Stack Bakery's coffee go well with the pastries?
They say the coffee is brewed from beans blended by a roaster with 15 years of experience, made to pair best with pastries. A cup of rich, deep coffee with a crisp, flavorful croissant should be about as good as it gets.

What is the seating like at Stack Bakery?
Stack Bakery has outdoor tables on the 1st floor and floor-to-ceiling window seats on the 2nd. It felt great for spending relaxed time alone, and just as good for a comfortable time with someone special.

How did the Stack Bakery takeout pastries taste?
I packed up some bread from Stack Bakery to eat as snacks. I picked the Maldon salt bread, pain au chocolat, croukie and egg flan,

Seriously, what is going on with how this bread looks,, it all looked so good that I wanted to try a bit of everything, so I picked several kinds.

Maldon salt bread
This is the Maldon salt bread, made crispier and chewier with rice flour.

Pain au chocolat
Pain au chocolat means "chocolate bread" in French. The pastry dough holds Valrhona chocolate batons, called a premium French chocolate, so the sweet, crisp texture was appealing.

Croukie (croissant-cookie)
A croukie is a croissant plus a cookie. The outside is crunchier than soboro (crumb-topped bread), and the inside, filled with cookie dough, is chewy and sweet.

Egg flan
Egg flan is a French-style treat: crisp, handmade Danish pastry with sweet, smooth custard cream. Stack Bakery had egg flan, so I tried it, and the harmony of sweetness and crunch was the best.

I couldn't wait and ate the salt bread on the way home, and it was really chewy with a crisp outside. Stack Bakery is a great bread shop, but if you like pastries, you absolutely have to visit.
