A family meal near Gajeong Station: why Euljiro Yeontan Gui Luone City Branch
Euljiro Yeontan Gui Luone City Branch (을지로 연탄구이 루원시티점) is a briquette BBQ restaurant near Gajeong Station: a 600g pork platter for ₩38,000, 4 live abalone for ₩12,000, and unlimited pineapple for grilling. On a weeknight or weekend you've probably thought, "Tonight I don't want a boring grill. I want thick meat and seafood sizzling over gentle, old-school briquette fire!" and searched for BBQ near Gajeong Station, right? haha
I love smoky grilled meat, so I often visit the well-known BBQ places around Luone City ❤️ But honestly, many places give you about 150g per serving for nearly ₩20,000, and feeding a whole family well easily tops ₩100,000. That's a lot to swallow!

And when you eat out with kids, if there are no proper high chairs or kids' tableware, the whole meal is chaos, and without sweet sides the kids will like, feeding them is a sweaty struggle T_T
So I found a real Gajeong Station BBQ gem: a generous 600g pork platter with all the popular cuts (pork belly, neck, jowl, hanger steak, dwitgogi (back-leg meat) and pork rind) in the ₩30,000s, 4 wriggling live abalone for just ₩12,000, and sweet pineapple as an unlimited side that the kids devoured!

Is it easy with kids? Retro briquette vibes and thoughtful service
The restaurant has a pojangmacha (Korean street-tent pub) feel with round tables to grill around, and staff brought a high chair and baby tableware first for our kids. When we walked in, a faint, familiar briquette smell and a lively BBQ atmosphere greeted us! It's a warm pojangmacha vibe, perfect for sitting around a round table, chatting and grilling.
Especially for a family with little kids, a staff member rushed over, set a nicely wiped high chair in a comfortable spot, and carefully brought cute baby tableware, a spoon and a fork. I was touched before the meal even started.

The staff also smiled and made eye contact while taking our order, and were so kind that I felt relaxed the whole time haha
How was the briquette fire?
Real briquettes are placed in the center of the table, and their heat didn't weaken until the end of the meal. At places using charcoal or gas, the fire often fades midway, meat takes forever to cook and the flow breaks T_T
Here the heavy, powerful briquette heat lasts until the grill is empty, locking the juices of thick meat inside and cooking it fast. I loved that.

Unlimited pineapple refills: how did the kids react?
The basic sides include lettuce wraps, seasonings and kimchi, plus yellow pineapple slices, and the pineapple is unlimited, haha! It's a perfect hit with kids!

Lightly grilled on the grill next to the meat, the sweetness goes up 200%. My kids put a piece of grilled pineapple on each bite of meat, said it was so sweet and delicious, and wouldn't stop shoveling it in 😭❤️ It was the MVP that let the whole family eat happily without worrying about kids' side dishes haha

The ₩38,000 pork platter: 600g and how it tasted
The pork platter is ₩38,000 for 600g on one plate: pork belly, neck, jowl, hanger steak, dwitgogi and pork rind. A big plate arrived piled with rosy meat, and "insane value" just popped out of my mouth haha

For just ₩38,000 it was packed with every key cut: pork belly, tender neck, crunchy jowl, chewy hanger steak, springy dwitgogi and the specialty pork rind.

We love the savory depth of hanger steak, so we also ordered an extra 100g! We put the cuts one by one on the grill heated by briquette fire...
Picking your favorite cut: pork belly, neck and jowl
The thick pork belly and neck burst with savory juice at every bite, and the jowl had its signature crisp, chewy texture 😭❤️
Rich hanger steak and chewy dwitgogi
The extra hanger steak was chewy with zero toughness and a deep meaty flavor rivaling beef, and the balance of springy fat and lean in the dwitgogi was amazing!

Collagen-packed pork rind
Last came the pork rind, grilled golden and dipped in roasted bean powder. It's the king of chewiness, perfect as a drinking snack or a special treat haha

4 abalone for ₩12,000: are they really alive?
Four abalone cost ₩12,000, and they came alive and moving on the plate. That works out to about ₩3,000 each.

While we were grilling, the 4 abalone (₩12,000) we ordered were set on the table! Not frozen or limp ones, but fresh live abalone wriggling energetically on the plate, and the whole family's eyes went wide haha About ₩3,000 each for such fresh, big, live abalone is a work of art in value.

How to eat briquette-grilled abalone
I put the abalone in its shell on the edge of the grill to cook gently, removed the tooth-like part, dipped it in sesame-oil salt sauce and popped it in my mouth...

Wow... everyone! No fishy smell at all, just the freshness of the sea with a chewy, tender texture filling my mouth, and I couldn't help exclaiming ❤️ Pork fat and briquette smoke together, with a bite of abalone in the middle of the meat, was a stroke of genius haha
Who should go to Euljiro Yeontan Gui Luone City Branch
If you're near Gajeong Station or the Luone City eatery street and want to skip the boring, pricey BBQ and instead sit around warm briquette fire grilling a generous pork platter, live abalone and sweet pineapple until you're stuffed, don't hesitate to visit! haha
