If you want a generous Indian curry lunch in Songdo

On a weekday lunch or a weekend afternoon, don't you ever think, "I'm so tired of the usual pasta or Korean food. On a nice day I want to sit on a terrace and dunk freshly baked, chewy naan into an exotic, authentic Indian curry!" and then search for atmospheric Songdo restaurants? Haha.

I love authentic Indian curry with that waft of spices, so I often visit Indian restaurants in Songdo ❤️ But honestly, a lot of curry places call something a lunch set and then give you a little dish with a dribble of curry and a bit of rice, and you leave not quite full. I'm sure everyone has been there!

And if the interior is dark and closed in, it's hard to enjoy the romance of Indian food, sob. So you start searching for a genuinely good Songdo curry place: a 2nd-floor spot with a wide-open view of green Songdo Central Park and an open outdoor terrace, so authentic that local foreign guests crowd in, serving a prawn curry and tandoori chicken set with about double the portions of other places' lunches, for just over ₩10,000!

Bombay Broy Songdo: atmosphere and the lentil soup starter

Bombay Broy Songdo is a 2nd-floor spot with a Central Park view that foreign guests love too. Going up to the 2nd floor and stepping inside, I was greeted by an exotic spice aroma and a stylish, spacious hall! Looking around, foreign residents of Songdo were seated here and there enjoying their meals, and I felt a rush of trust: "Wow, this really is an authentic Indian curry place the locals approve of!"

After ordering, the first things on the table were the lentil soup, salad, and an elegant wine glass! The soup, made by simmering lentils for a long time, went down creamy and nutty with no coarseness. It wasn't harsh, and the subtle spices warmed me up, making it a great starter.

Swapping the lunch set's lassi for wine

Swapping the standard lassi for wine was a stroke of genius: it cleanly balanced the rich, spicy tandoori chicken and curry, and made me feel like I was at a fancy dinner, haha.

Bombay Broy's tandoori chicken: is it dry?

The tandoori chicken at Bombay Broy Songdo came out with the grease gone and the red special tandoori masala seasoning coating the skin in a golden glaze. I cut the meat with a fork and knife and put it in my mouth... wow... everyone! There's zero dryness, hahaha!

Even the breast meat held its moisture and was so tender! Marinated deeply in yogurt and traditional Indian spices and then grilled, it hit my mouth with waves of spicy, exotic, smoky flavor the more I chewed ❤️ Add a sip of wine and it was a perfect pairing, haha.

How big is Bombay Broy's prawn curry?

The prawn curry (shrimp curry) at Bombay Broy Songdo came in a big, deep bowl filled to the brim. The second it landed on the table, my husband and I both went wide-eyed at the size of the curry bowl, hahaha!

When you order a lunch set at most Indian curry places, don't they give you a palm-sized little bowl with a thin layer you can see the bottom through? Bombay Broy Songdo ladled curry into a big, deep dedicated bowl and filled it right up, so the portion honestly looked at least double what you'd get elsewhere.

When I scooped some up with a spoon, there were no cocktail shrimp; it was packed with big, plump king prawns, and the popping texture with every bite was incredible 😭

With a tomato-and-onion base blended with smooth cream and a buttery aroma, it wasn't spicy but sweet, with a deep savoriness that clung to the palate. It's a premium curry that everyone, young and old, will fall for, haha.

3 naan and heaped rice: what's in the Bombay Broy lunch

The curry at Bombay Broy Songdo is enormous, and the naan and rice that came with it were on a crazy scale too, hahaha! A stack of no fewer than 3 big, freshly baked naan arrived on one side of the table, and, perfectly suited to Korean tastes, the rice was pressed down into a heaped, piled-high bowl.

I tore apart the naan, stuck to the tandoor wall and baked golden and puffed, by hand; crisp outside and springy and chewy inside, it was fun just to tear.

I piled rich prawn curry and plump shrimp onto the hot naan and ate it like a wrap, and the savoriness just exploded! With all that rice, I mixed curry into it and topped it with salad like kimchi, and even though I was about to burst, I couldn't stop my spoon and hand, so I scraped the bowl clean, haha.

The salad, with crunchy lettuce and cherry tomatoes in a fresh dressing, refreshed my mouth between bites of curry.
