This time I visited Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch, a well-known spot for a hearty meal in Songdo 1-gongu, Incheon. I love kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) anyway, and I was curious about the noodles since they use house-made noodles aged for 24 hours.
The menu I ordered this time was the half-chicken kalguksu and 8 chewy dumplings. With chicken meat added to the kalguksu, it was way more filling than I expected, and the savory perilla-laced broth combined with the chewy noodles made for a warm, satisfying meal. Above all, the food came out looking so tidy and neat that even eating alone, it felt like being served a proper, healthy spread.

Above all, kalguksu is a dish that's easy to eat for lunch without feeling too heavy, so it seemed like a good place to visit when craving a warm bowl of soup while looking for lunch in Songdo, Incheon.
Is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu in Songdo a comfortable spot for eating alone?

The interior of Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch was clean and tidy overall. It felt like a place where solo diners could eat comfortably, so it seemed like a good fit for anyone looking for a solo-dining restaurant in Songdo.

There was also a phone charging station

The atmosphere was friendly and easy to walk into just for a bowl of kalguksu, so it seemed like it wouldn't feel awkward at all to eat alone here during lunch hour.

The Eonyang Dak Kalguksu menu and what I ordered that day

As the name suggests, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu sells a range of chicken-centered kalguksu dishes, along with dak-gomtang (chicken soup), jjimdak (braised chicken), and dumplings.

They also sell chogye guksu (cold noodles in chilled vinegary broth), so it seems like a good option for a summer visit too!
What I ordered that day was the half-chicken kalguksu and 8 chewy dumplings. Since I was eating alone, I briefly wondered if I should just get the kalguksu, but I was curious about the dumplings too, so I ordered both. In the end, I'm glad I got both, haha. With chicken in the kalguksu and dumplings on the side, it was quite the filling lunch.

Since the noodles are made in-house, cooking takes about 15 minutes, but I got lucky and mine came out a bit faster!

Spicy and mild kimchi, self-serve
Kimchi is a must at any kalguksu restaurant. Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch has both spicy and mild kimchi ready, so you can pick according to your taste.

Side dishes are self-serve, so I brought over as much kimchi and pickled radish as I wanted!!

The mild kimchi was easy to eat alongside the kalguksu without any pressure, while the spicy kimchi definitely had a sharper, spicier kick, with what seemed like more garlic added. Personally, I preferred the spicy kimchi.

By the way, the kimchi is also available for purchase to take home!
How does the half-chicken kalguksu taste? Chicken, perilla broth, house-made noodles

The half-chicken kalguksu I ordered arrived first. The bowl was piled high with half a chicken, and it looked quite generous just from the visuals.

The chicken was well boiled, so the meat came off easily with chopsticks, and it was genuinely tender! With half a chicken in the bowl, it definitely felt heartier than a typical kalguksu.

The broth is chicken-based with perilla seeds added, so the flavor itself was quite rich — almost like a slightly thicker dak-gomtang, if that makes sense? Since I was in the mood for warm soup that day, one spoonful of the broth warmed me right up, and it felt great.

Another highlight was the noodles! They use house-made noodles aged for 24 hours, and they're slightly thicker than typical kalguksu noodles. So with the first bite, they were nice and chewy. I personally prefer thicker noodles, so this hit the spot exactly. With the savory broth and chewy noodles, eating the noodles together with the broth was genuinely enjoyable.

Add the tender chicken on top of that, and even though I came for lunch alone, it was surprisingly filling. Personally, I thought this was the perfect dish for a day when I wanted something warm and easy on a Korean-food kind of day.

8 chewy dumplings — could I finish them all solo?
The 8 chewy dumplings I ordered alongside had, true to the name, dumpling skins that were genuinely chewy, giving a texture quite different from typical dumplings.

Inside was a meat filling, and the dumpling skin had a nice chewy bite while the meat filling stayed light.

And of course, dumplings have to be eaten with pickled radish, haha. A chewy bite of meat dumpling paired with the crisp, tangy pickled radish made for a pretty great combo.
I wondered if I could really finish a kalguksu plus 8 dumplings solo, but true to my old nickname from my prime — Hiddink — I finished it all; ha. Between the half chicken in the kalguksu and clearing out the dumplings, it felt like a properly complete lunch.
Final verdict: how was Eonyang Dak Kalguksu for a solo lunch in Songdo 1-gongu?
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch was a Korean restaurant in Songdo 1-gongu where I could enjoy a warm, filling meal without any pressure, even eating alone. The portion was generous with a whole half chicken in the kalguksu, and I liked the combination of chewy noodles made from 24-hour aged house-made noodles with the savory perilla-laced chicken broth.
Add the spicy and mild kimchi you can choose based on preference, plus the chewy dumplings, and even solo dining felt like a proper, well-rounded meal. Above all, since the food came out so tidy, it felt less like just getting through a meal and more like being treated to a healthy spread — and I liked that.
If you're craving warm kalguksu broth in Songdo, Incheon, or looking for a solo lunch option in Songdo 1-gongu, this place is worth a visit. Next time, I'd like to try some of the other kalguksu menu items too, haha.
