Grilled pork ribs and sundubu in Geoje: Geumson Deunggalbi

A hearty meal of pork ribs and sundubu-jjigae in Geoje

This was one of the lunches I enjoyed so, so much on Geoje Island, one of my very frequent getaway spots near Busan. It was truly great value, the service was kind, and the food was delicious—perfect for a filling lunch, and it also seemed like a really great place to have a drink in the evening. I visited Geumson Deunggalbi Sundubu Geoje Main Branch (금손등갈비 순두부 거제본점), where you can enjoy delicious grilled pork ribs and spicy sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) that really clears you out.

Where should you park?

There is space for one car in front of the restaurant. There is also a public parking lot a two-minute walk away. We parked there and walked over!

The interior feels like a casual restaurant, but it is also a nice place to have a drink in the evening. They offer great-value lunch specials, so lots of Geoje locals come here for lunch too.

Fully grilled pork ribs and lunch-special menus

The signature is fully grilled pork ribs! There are three flavors, and the first order is available from three portions. Your first order comes with pork skin, kimchi rolled noodles, and garnishes. You can add sundubu-jjigae for ₩9,000, haha. It is good as drinking food and just as good with rice. Lunch specials include a braised ribs and grilled fish set, as well as a sundubu-jjigae and grilled fish set.

The side dishes are not at a self-service bar—they bring them to you—and they seemed homemade. Everything was so neat and lightly seasoned in a lovely way.

The banchan (Korean side dishes) were cabbage salad, white kimchi, pickles, and broccoli salad. For the grilled ribs, they set out three sauces: teriyaki, curry salt, and spicy sauce.

First, they grill the garnishes: mushrooms, garlic, corn, shishito peppers, and bell peppers!

The included pork skin was seriously delicious, haha. They grill it for you right away, so you can eat it immediately without having to grill it yourself, and it was just… so good. I almost ordered more! I loved that it came as part of the meal. The refreshing kimchi rolled noodles were just right for cleansing the palate, too!

Today’s order was three portions of fully grilled pork ribs plus the lunch sundubu and grilled fish set.

The sundubu-jjigae was a fiery-looking red soft tofu stew. The broth felt incredibly rich, with that satisfying hangover-cure kind of flavor. Of course, I had not been drinking, but on a tired morning, it was a broth that made my insides feel completely cleared out!

The four kinds of side dishes served with the sundubu-jjigae also had such a wonderful homemade touch from the owner. One bite of those side dishes and you could tell, haha.

Tender ribs ready to eat right away

They arrive already fully cooked, so you can just eat them right away! If they get cold, simply warm them back up on the grill in front of you. The meat was so tender and delicious. Just look at that inside—chewy yet soft meat.

It was also fantastic with rice! It paired so well with a bowl of white rice. Totally my style! Haha. The sweet soy flavor is an absolute rice thief.

It also goes beautifully with the kimchi rolled noodles that come with it.

The spicy flavor worked wonderfully too

This one was the spicy flavor. Oh, it was nicely spicy and warming from the inside out. I consider myself fairly good with spicy food, and it was deliciously hot—the kind that keeps you reaching for more while making your mouth tingle, haha. It is a spicy flavor that works so well with pork ribs, which could otherwise get rich if you eat a lot.

I come to Geoje often, and I think it is wonderful that I get to discover new local gems and enjoy delicious food every time. This is a great-value local lunch spot, while also being a really nice place for a drink in the evening. The ribs are grilled so well, the menu selection is excellent, and the side dishes are delicious—absolutely a place I want to revisit!! Next time, I would like to come for delivery or evening takeout.
