Daegu makchang restaurant with vegetables: Gopchang119 Anjirang

In short

Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch is a makchang restaurant in Nam-gu, Daegu. After the E-World fireworks show, I had 2 servings of vegetable-filled grilled makchang and cheese fried rice for 35,000 won amid the festival-like alley atmosphere. Verdict: an easy, satisfying spot for chewy, nutty makchang without any off smell.

After watching the E-World fireworks show in Daegu, we headed straight out—time to put some oil in these hungry bellies! I visited Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch (곱창119 안지랑점) on Anjirang Gopchang Street in Daemyeong-dong ☺️

Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch location and business information

It was late on a weekend, but Anjirang Gopchang Street had the atmosphere of a neighborhood festival: cars were barred from entering the alley, outdoor tables filled the street, and a lively singing contest was ringing out. It was happening right in front of Gopchang119, so this was a prime viewing spot haha 🪄

Pocha vibes and modern interiors

The inside blends the friendly feel of a pocha (Korean pub) with clean, modern decor, creating a cozy late-night-eats atmosphere. Round silver drum tables add that welcoming old-school restaurant vibe, perfect for raising a glass at a gathering or on a date. I was excited to hear that Gopchang119 uses an oak-smoking process so you can enjoy delicious gopchang (beef intestines) with no off smell!!!

Ordering salt-grilled makchang and cheese fried rice

As you would expect from an intestine specialist, the mains included al-gopchang, vegetable gopchang, salt-grilled makchang (pork rectum), salt-grilled chicken neck meat, and beef gopchang hot pot. There was also a free cheese fried rice coupon when you searched Gopchang119 on Naver, plus an event offering your choice of a soft drink or alcoholic drink for writing a 💚review💚.

Side dishes and refreshing bean sprout soup

These are the complimentary side dishes. They were so fresh!! They say the tastiest way is to top the makchang with perilla leaf and pickled radish wrap, then eat it with sweet pickled garlic and mayonnaise sauce.

The bean sprout soup was also clean and refreshing, such a perfect match for the rich gopchang and makchang.

Salt-grilled makchang served with vegetables

Finally, the salt-grilled makchang arrived!! It comes piled high with stir-fried vegetables like this. It was already cooked, so there was no difficult grilling, no oil splattering while grilling—very happy about that! And the vegetables make the texture even more abundant, right?

Salt-grilled makchang served with stir-fried vegetables

I picked up a piece of makchang with vegetables, no sauce at all, and maybe because it was cooked through that oak-smoking process, there was absolutely no off smell!!! It was springy, chewy, and full of nutty juices, with the aroma of perilla leaves plus the texture of onion and cabbage. It was less cloying than regular salt-grilled makchang, and I just kept shoveling it in 🐽🐷

Chewy makchang eaten with vegetables

The nicely browned salt-grilled makchang was light and nutty even simply dipped in sauce, but to enjoy it properly, I absolutely recommend the wrap combination! The tang of pickled radish instantly cut through makchang's characteristic richness, while crisp vegetables and chewy makchang came together so well that I never got tired of reaching for more. With all those varied flavors filling my mouth, I could eat makchang forever haha

A mild finish with cheese fried rice

Since we had salt-grilled makchang rather than seasoned gopchang, I was curious about how the cheese fried rice would come out. It arrived separately stir-fried like this. There was a whole bowlful of nutty cheese, browned and looking so appetizing haha. The fried rice had a fairly mild flavor without an overpowering sauce—it was not spicy fried rice.

Snow cheese fried rice prepared separately

The fried rice was not overly seasoned and was mild, so it was perfect topped with leftover makchang or grilled vegetables. The chewy, nutty makchang and crisp stir-fried vegetables had such a lovely balance of flavor and texture. It was neither overpowering nor greasy, with an appealing flavor that made the last piece—and the fried rice too—go down so easily! With a cheese fried rice coupon and the review event offering a drink as well, Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch is a great place to enjoy makchang and gopchang without feeling burdened. Definitely give it a try~ 👍💛
