Magok Mexican restaurant with bacon cheese dip: Taqueros

In short

Taqueros Magok Main Branch is a Mexican restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul. We shared a two-person set with fish tacos, chicken tacos, and fajitas, building each bite with tortillas and sauces. Verdict: a fun choice for a date or a taco team dinner.

A Mexican date in Magok that feels like a trip abroad

If you’re looking for a great date spot in Magok, I recommend heading to Taqueros Magok Main Branch for tacos! With its cozy, old-school family-restaurant atmosphere and mood-setting music, it weirdly made me wonder whether I was really still in Seoul—it felt like I’d gone abroad, haha. They have plenty of side dishes as well as tacos, and the two-person set let us eat a really generous meal!

Taqueros is in Magok GMG Tower. You can park in the building for up to two hours, so it was also a nice option for a drive-in date.

Once you go up to the second floor of GMG Tower, the Taqueros restaurant is right there. Even the exterior has an exotic feel, haha. It was a little different from the clean, standard restaurants you often see in Magok, so I was excited before we even went in.

Tacos and fajitas from the two-person set

There were so many options, from tacos and fajitas to side dishes, that we spent a while deciding what to get, haha. There are lots of taco varieties and set menus, so it looked easy to order even when visiting with a group. After much deliberation, we ordered the two-person set!

Inside, it had that warm old family-restaurant atmosphere, and the music was so good that eating tacos genuinely felt like being on vacation abroad, hahaha. The atmosphere was nice for a date, too.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch the food being made. Somehow, places with an open kitchen make the wait for food less boring, haha.

A nacho cheese dip I kept reaching for despite not loving cheese

And then there were the complimentary nachos! The cheese dip that came with them was such an unexpected highlight, hahaha. Honestly, I’m not that into cheese, so I only tried one dip at first… but it was way more delicious than I expected, haha.

We also ordered apple mango ade and orange ade. Both were bright and refreshing, so they went well with the tacos.

At last, the two-person set arrived! The table was filled with tacos, fajitas, and tortillas, and it was more generous than I expected. Better yet, tortillas and sauces can be refilled, so there was no worry about running short while eating.

Wrapping fajitas in tortillas your own way

The fajitas came loaded with a variety of ingredients. That chicken in particular was packed with smoky char-grilled flavor! There was fried rice underneath, and it was seriously so good even on its own. It was delicious as-is, but wrapping different ingredients in a tortilla gave it a proper Mexican feel, haha. Since tortillas came with it, it was fun mixing and matching everything to my taste.

Fajitas loaded with ingredients

The set included two kinds of tacos: fish taco and chicken taco!

Two kinds of tacos: fish and chicken

The fish taco had especially great texture, with crispy fried fish and all the toppings working together. The fish was clean and mild with no fishy smell at all, and the crispiness plus the toppings turned out to be a better combination than I expected!

The chicken taco had really tender chicken. It still had a crisp outer texture, and the tender chicken with the toppings made this one delicious too.

For the fajitas, put whichever ingredients you want into a tortilla, then add sauce and toppings to your taste. One time I went heavy on the meat, another time shrimp, and another time lots of vegetables and sauce! Switching up the combinations meant I never got tired of it and enjoyed every bite to the end.

The refillable cheese dip that stayed with me at Taqueros Magok

At Taqueros Magok, the food was great, but the warm family-restaurant atmosphere and international music together made it a place where I could properly get that abroad feeling while still in Seoul, haha. Above all, the cheese dip served with the nachos was so good! It didn’t taste like a store-bought sauce; it had vegetables and bacon in it, so it was rich with cheese flavor without being greasy. Even I, someone who doesn’t really like cheese, refilled just the dip twice, hahaha.

With refillable tortillas and sauces plus a generous two-person set, it’s great for a Magok date. And if you’re tired of eating only meat at every team dinner, it’s also a nice place to go for something different and have tacos!
