Yeongjongdo bakery, milk bread baked without water: 5PM sunset hour
In short
5PM sunset hour is a dessert bakery on the ground floor of the KCC Switzen shopping arcade in Yeongjong Sky City, Incheon. On a Yeongjongdo trip with a child, the writer took away milk bread, mocha salt bread, a cranberry scone, a fig financier and butter rice cake, and the 5PM sunset hour milk bread, baked with milk only and no water, was still moist at breakfast the next morning at the lodging. If you pick just one bread on Yeongjongdo, make it the 5PM sunset hour milk bread.

The dessert spot with the milk bread of my life, one I kept thinking about after our Yeongjongdo trip

A bakery to stop at when traveling Yeongjongdo with a kid: what is 5PM sunset hour like?
5PM sunset hour is a dessert bakery on the ground floor of the KCC Swiss shopping block in Yeongjong Sky City, and you can park in the shopping block lot behind the building. If you visit Yeongjongdo with a child, I really want to tell you to stop here at least once! I stumbled into this Yeongjongdo dessert spot on our Incheon trip, and I'm still thinking about it....+.+

Honestly, I always stop at a café or two on a trip, but 5PM sunset hour is officially saved as "a place I want to go back to just for the bread"!! It's great to eat with kids and a hearty snack on the road, so let me introduce this hidden Yeongjongdo dessert find :)
Inside 5PM sunset hour: atmosphere and bread display

The shop is small but feels like a neighborhood bakery, with warm-toned lighting and cute little props. The moment you step in, the smell of nutty, sweet bread fills the whole shop! The space is compact, but the owner's refined taste is all over it, so it's small yet really well put together and pretty. Instead of over-the-top decor, there's warm lighting and charming props, and it really felt like a bakery locals drop into all the time.
Every bread on display looked delicious, so after a long deliberation I brought home a bit of everything: mocha salt bread, milk bread, cranberry scone, financier and butter rice cake. The space is full of the owner's love, so picking bread was twice the fun.

A must-see look for any bakery crawl, the signature baked sweets of 5PM sunset hour! Golden scones, cute canelés, and hearty-looking financiers were all lined up beautifully. You can tell with your eyes that the owner baked each one with care, the textbook crisp-outside, moist-inside look, so I agonized over what to pick,,,,,haha

5PM sunset hour salt bread set menu
5PM sunset hour has set menus built around salt bread, and buying a set costs less than buying the items separately. I figured out right away from the menu why this place is a word-of-mouth salt bread spot on Yeongjongdo!
- Soa set: salt bread + americano
- Sora set: salt bread + café latte
- Sosa set: bundle of 4 salt breads
Aren't the names so cute and clever? Buying a set is a better deal than buying each item on its own, with a discounted price!

Why is the milk bread at 5PM sunset hour a must?
They say the milk bread at 5PM sunset hour is baked with only milk, not a single drop of water. If you go, whatever else you skip, you really have to bring this milk bread home!! It's incomparably soft and mild next to additive-heavy store-bought loaves, and even plain, with no jam or butter, a gentle milk flavor fills your mouth, so the whole family ate it in awe! It's also hearty and top quality as a next-morning breakfast.
5PM sunset hour packaging: bags labeled with bread names and a storage postcard
5PM sunset hour packs each bread by type and writes the bread's name on every wrapper. This warm touch from the owner really moved me! Thanks to it, back at the lodging I never had to wonder "what bread was this again?" and could tell right away. They even tuck in a pretty postcard with detailed tips on how to eat and store the bread at its best, such a thoughtful touch...!

Recommended menu at 5PM sunset hour and my honest taste review
A snack after mudflat play: fig financier
The fig financier at 5PM sunset hour is a baked sweet where popping fig texture meets chewy batter. If you love baked sweets, you can't just walk past a financier, right? My daughter and I both love figs, haha, and 5PM sunset hour on Yeongjongdo happened to have a fig financier! hehe
My kid got hungry while playing on the mudflat, so I'd packed it along, and the popping figs with the chewy financier batter made it fun to chew. It's neat to eat without crumbs everywhere, and the sweet-bitter flavor was excellent! hehe
Butter rice cake the kid ate well
The butter rice cake (buttertteok) at 5PM sunset hour has a chewy rice cake texture with butter flavor added, and it was addictive. My kid ate it well too, so next time I wanted to pack several.

Hitting the adult spot: mocha salt bread
The mocha salt bread at 5PM sunset hour smells of coffee and is crisp outside like a mocha bun, with a salty butter flavor packed inside. Salt bread is all the rage lately and I've eaten plenty around, but the mocha salt bread here was a real treat!! The outside is crisp with the mild, sweet coffee aroma typical of a mocha bun, while the inside is full of the salty, nutty butter flavor salt bread is known for. It's the textbook crisp-outside, moist-inside, and I highly recommend it as a pick for adults!

A cranberry scone that isn't dry
The cranberry scone at 5PM sunset hour had a crisp-outside, moist-inside scone base generously dotted with sweet-tart cranberries! I usually like scones, and this one felt hardly dry at all, which I loved. The cranberries here and there kept it fresh, so I never got tired of it to the end.

Was the milk bread at 5PM sunset hour still moist the next morning?
I ate the milk bread from 5PM sunset hour the next morning at our lodging, and it was just as moist, with a rich milk flavor even with nothing spread on it. Wow, everyone. This was honestly the best bread I've eaten in my whole life!!!! Seriously, you have to try it. It was the loaf that made me say "wow…" at the first bite.

The crumb is super soft and moist, and the milk flavor is so strong that it's delicious with nothing on it. I was even more surprised that it stayed just as moist the next day. >.<
I ate the bread packed from 5PM sunset hour for breakfast the morning after our trip, and it was hearty and very satisfying. Plenty of tourist-area bakeries only have atmosphere, but 5PM sunset hour, this Yeongjongdo dessert spot, feels like it's just really good at the bread itself, so it stays in your memory. If I could get to Yeongjongdo often I'd go every day, but it's far, which is a real shame 🥹 and maybe that's why the taste keeps coming back to me. I especially hope you'll try the milk bread!!
