During our trip to Jeju, I visited Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점), near Seongsan Ilchulbong, for an early breakfast with my children. We ordered Set A for two, plus abalone porridge and sea urchin seaweed soup, and shared a range of Jeju dishes.

Is it well located for an early breakfast in Seongsan?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 101 Sinyang-ro in Seongsan-eup. It was a one-minute drive from our accommodation, and it was also fairly accessible from Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, and Aqua Planet.

The original post listed its hours as 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily, with no break time. Even when we arrived early in the morning, many guests were already eating. At the time of our visit, we could park along the roadside in front of and behind the restaurant, and it stated that reservations, group visits, and takeout were available.

What is the seating like for families with children?

The interior was spacious and kept tidy. There were four-person tables and group seats for larger parties, so it was suitable for a family meal.

What comes with Set A for braised cutlassfish, and how much is it?

There were sets centered on braised cutlassfish, mackerel kimchi stew, grilled tilefish, and black pork duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork). I could also choose individual dishes such as ttukbaegi (earthenware-pot stew), abalone porridge, and sea urchin seaweed soup.

The Set A we ordered was ₩24,000 per person. It included braised cutlassfish, grilled tilefish, soy-marinated raw crab, glutinous pot rice, and a choice of seafood ttukbaegi or sea urchin seaweed soup. We chose the seafood ttukbaegi and added abalone porridge and sea urchin seaweed soup for the children.

Once we had ordered, the banchan (side dishes) were set out quickly. They were neatly prepared and tasty, so we kept reaching for them before the main dishes arrived.

I was told that the soy-marinated raw crab could also be delivered nationwide. According to the original post, one container cost ₩40,000, with delivery charged separately.

How did the braised cutlassfish and seafood ttukbaegi taste?

The braised cutlassfish had thick flesh infused with a spicy, savory sauce. Once I picked the flesh off the bones, it was tender and moist.

The thoroughly cooked radish and onion were soft and mildly sweet, and they paired well with the rich sauce. My husband, who does not usually eat much braised fish, mixed the sauce into his rice and finished a bowl.

The seafood ttukbaegi contained shrimp, mussels, blue crab, and clam meat. Its broth had a clean seafood flavor with a spicy kick.

Which dishes were good to share with children?

Was the grilled tilefish lightly seasoned?

I did not expect much from the grilled tilefish, but it stayed with me after trying it. It was browned as though fried, with a crisp exterior and moist, mild flesh.

It was not heavily seasoned, so it was good for sharing with the children. After trying it, they kept asking me to pick off more flesh for them. It also went well with the warm pot rice.

How were the sea urchin seaweed soup and abalone porridge for breakfast?

The sea urchin seaweed soup was ₩15,000 as an individual dish. I ordered it to eat with my child, and the warm broth brought together soft seaweed and a subtle sea urchin flavor. It was mild and nutty, making it easy to eat for breakfast.

The abalone porridge was also ₩15,000. My child was not feeling well that morning, so I ordered the porridge. Tender yet chewy abalone came through the soft porridge, and its nutty flavor made it easy to eat.

How did we finish the glutinous pot rice?

As soon as the glutinous pot rice arrived, we first served out the rice and poured in warm water to make nurungji (scorched-rice tea). The savory nurungji also paired well with the spicy braised cutlassfish.

What I liked about this meal was that the adults could have the spicy braised cutlassfish and spicy seafood ttukbaegi, while the children could eat grilled tilefish, sea urchin seaweed soup, and abalone porridge. It was a satisfying family breakfast before sightseeing around Seongsan.
