Tofu stew breakfast with kids at Sokcho Korean restaurant Bigeumdo
In short
Bigeumdo is a Korean set-meal restaurant in a standalone hanok building at 5 Sinheung 2-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving pollack hangover soup and tofu stew from 8:30 in the morning. On a rainy morning family visit, tofu stew cost 14,000 won and pollack soup 13,000 won, and the side dishes were seasoned well enough that the table ordered two extra bowls of rice. Even the 6-year-old ate well with rice stirred into the pollack soup, so Bigeumdo works nicely for an early breakfast with parents and children.

A rainy morning breakfast at Bigeumdo in Sokcho

Today's fresh visit report is about a breakfast I had at Bigeumdo, famous as a Korean restaurant (한정식) in Sokcho. With rain drizzling steadily outside, hot pollack soup (황태해장국) and tofu stew (두부찌개) sounded exactly right. Between the carefully made side dishes and the soup, it was a time that warmed both body and mind. Shall we take a look at Bigeumdo, a well-known Korean restaurant in Sokcho, together?

Inside Bigeumdo: a standalone hanok building

I came to Sokcho's Bigeumdo, also known for its abalone rice and beef jeon (육전). With the rain drizzling down, the elegant exterior had a real sense of atmosphere against the overcast sky.

I visited early in the morning, and not long after, plenty of other customers started arriving too. The interior was really clean, which I liked.

At the self-serve bar you could grab small plates, utensils, and a kid's spoon, which was convenient.
What we ordered at Bigeumdo: tofu stew 14,000 won, pollack soup 13,000 won

This is the menu board at Bigeumdo, a well-loved Sokcho breakfast spot, as of August 2026. We ordered one tofu stew for 14,000 won and one pollack soup for 13,000 won.

The tofu stew and pollack soup came out quickly, along with tasty side dishes. Both arrived in hot stone pots (뚝배기).
What side dishes come with the meal?

We got cucumber muchim, potato julienne muchim, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), gochu muchim, and jeotgal (salted seafood). The seasoning was spot-on and delicious.
How is the tofu stew at Bigeumdo?

This was my first time trying their tofu stew. Given how good the side dishes already were, the stew's seasoning was also perfectly balanced — spicy and deeply savory at the same time.

The nutty, mild tofu had soaked up the spicy stew sauce so well that I kept reaching for more.

I don't normally eat much at breakfast, but it tasted so good that I ended up ordering two extra bowls of rice.
How is the pollack hangover soup broth?

This pollack soup had a rich, milky-white aroma. Just looking at it felt refreshing. Since it was served in a hot stone pot, the warmth lasted the whole time we were eating.

The pollack inside was really soft and full of juice, making every bite fun to chew.

Above all, the broth was so rich that my spoon kept going back in. The deeply infused pollack stock let me fully taste the fish's deep flavor and softness.
Free beef jeon from the receipt review event

They were running a Naver receipt review event, so I joined right away and got beef jeon (육전) as a free extra.

Even though it was a freebie from a review event, the quality was really impressive. Served in a nice little bowl with a chive-soy sauce dip, the beef jeon looked so good it somehow tasted even chewier and more delicious.
Is Bigeumdo good for a family breakfast? My honest take
On the second day of our Sokcho trip, we came to Bigeumdo, built handsomely in hanok style, to have breakfast together as a family. Following the navigation, we ended up in a quiet countryside alley — an unusual, striking scene. Before going in, I took a walk around the area and was surprised to find several other hanok standalone houses nearby.
The interior was also a tidy hanok style, and I thought this would be a great spot to bring parents to on a Sokcho trip. Most of the customers seemed to be locals, though I also spotted a few families who were traveling.
We ordered the spicy tofu stew and the mild pollack soup at the same time, and my 6-year-old daughter really took to the pollack soup, happily mixing it with rice and eating it all up. Next time I visit, I'd love to try the abalone rice too. We ate really well and had a great time!
