Busan izakaya with ₩1,990 drinks and ten-bukkake udon: Misikga-ui Udon

Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Exit 6 of Daeyeon Station in Nam-gu, Busan, serving house-made udon and tonkatsu by day and turning into an izakaya at night with soju and draft beer at a flat 1,990 won. The ten-bukkake udon (tempura udon, 15,000 won) and the combo set (14,900 won) had the springy noodle texture you find in Japan, and Goryeo Private Parking Lot behind the restaurant takes the stress out of driving there. Misikga-ui Udon suits anyone in Daeyeon-dong who wants lunch and an after-work drink in the same place.

Jongno 3-ga Korean BBQ with wicker-tray banchan at 6pm: Tapgol

Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch is a frozen pork belly Korean BBQ restaurant with an open-air "yajang" mood on Supyo-ro near Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno, Seoul. Arriving on a weekday around 6pm, the writer took one of the last outdoor terrace tables and ordered 2 servings of quick-frozen pork belly and 1 serving of quick-frozen pork collar, and found the banchan served on a wicker tray and the glasses and wet wipes preset at every table especially handy. Waits build up quickly even on a weekday evening, so anyone hoping for an outdoor seat at Tapgol Gongwon should get there early.

Bangi-dong sushi restaurant with free porridge starter: Susi Seon

Susi Seon Bangi Branch is a sushi restaurant in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul, a short walk from Songpanaru Station. The couple set (2 people) brings sushi, handmade pork cutlet and mini udon together, and before the mains arrive the restaurant serves complimentary pre-meal porridge and mini jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles). Finding jjolmyeon at a sushi restaurant is a fun surprise, and the handmade sauce on the pork cutlet is the dish worth coming back for.
