Beyond the basic pork cutlet, there was a good variety, including spicy stir-fried pork (jeyuk) and pasta. We ordered one basic Tteudon cutlet and one cheese cutlet.

What's at the Tteudon Magok self-bar?

Self-bar in the middle of Tteudon Magok

The self-bar sits in the middle of the restaurant, with dinner rolls, cream soup, sweet-and-spicy tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes in red sauce) and udon broth. As soon as we'd ordered, we headed straight there.

Pickles, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and pickled radish were also help-yourself, as much as you like.

Tteokbokki and sides taken from the self-bar
Self-bar tteokbokki eaten before the main dishes

We had a light snack before the mains arrived, and the self-bar tteokbokki was better than I expected. The rice cakes were chewy and the sauce was tasty.

Cream soup from the Tteudon Magok self-bar

The cream soup wasn't salty but mild, so it was perfect for the kids to start with, and you can add pepper or salt to taste.

Is Tteudon Magok good with kids? Toddler dishes and play area

Toddler tray and utensils at Tteudon Magok

Tteudon Magok was a great setup for eating with young children. There were toddler-only trays, forks and spoons decorated with cute animal characters,

and plenty of high chairs too.

Kids' play area at Tteudon Magok

On one side of the restaurant there's also a small play area just for kids. The game machine was broken when we went, but there were dolls and mats, so the kids can play for a bit while parents eat a little more leisurely.

How was the basic Tteudon pork cutlet?

The mains came out generously piled on big plates.

The thick cutlet was freshly fried and steaming, served with rice and salad.

Basic Tteudon pork cutlet with generous sauce

The sauce poured generously over the cutlet wasn't too sweet or too sour and went well with the meat. Because the flavor isn't overly strong, even our oldest happily poked at it with a fork and ate it by himself.

Cheese cutlet and cabbage salad

The moment we cut into the cheese cutlet with a knife, creamy white mozzarella came stretching out. It was packed with cheese, and the fresh, nutty, chewy cheese filled my mouth and went wonderfully with the tender meat. So good.

Cabbage salad with dressing

The cabbage salad I nibbled on between bites was satisfying too. The dressing on top was really tasty and cut through the richness. It was so good I'd have ordered a side salad on its own.

How many ice cream flavors are there for dessert?

Ice cream corner by the entrance at Tteudon Magok

The ice cream is by the entrance, and there are four flavors: chocolate, yogurt, strawberry and green tea. We went over after finishing the meal. It was sweet without an obvious artificial color or scent, and the kids and we adults each scooped some to end the meal.

Tteudon Magok overall verdict
