Seogwipo seafood restaurant for braised and grilled cutlassfish
In short
Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant in Seogwipo, Jeju, near Seongsan Ilchulbong. We ordered the 39,000 won small Bada Punggyeong Braise and enjoyed staff-deboned grilled cutlassfish alongside its sweet-spicy braise. A great pick when you want both braised and grilled cutlassfish in one meal.

A cutlassfish braise meal near Seongsan Ilchulbong
While looking for somewhere to eat braised cutlassfish around Seongsan Ilchulbong, we stopped by Seongsan Bada Punggyeong. It came up often when I searched for good braised cutlassfish in Seongsan, and when we actually visited, the menu was really well put together. Order the Bada Punggyeong Braise and whole grilled cutlassfish comes with it, so you can enjoy both braised and grilled fish at once.

Actually, that evening had strong winds from the indirect effects of a typhoon, so we skipped some places we had planned to visit and only made brief stops at others. But then again, I remember how much fun the kids and I had watching the waves crash so fiercely. A trip can be fun even when the weather is rough.

The cutlassfish and braised cutlassfish here are delicious, but there is also a nicely set-up photo zone in front of the restaurant, so be sure to stop by for a picture :-)

We went in the evening, and the bright sign made the place easy to find. Taking an exterior photo in that wind, though, was not easy hahaha. It is close to Seongsan Ilchulbong, making it a great spot to pair with nearby plans.

You can park right where you see here! The window seats also have an ocean view, which made it feel even more like we were in Jeju. (I have to say again: the wind was incredible that day.)

Ordering the small Bada Punggyeong Braise
The owner here was a funny person. The little sayings posted all around the restaurant had us cracking up hahaha.
Order according to how hungry you are, not according to the number of people.
Usually restaurants tell you to order by headcount, but this place says not to. And then there was the phrase that immediately caught my eye: whole grilled cutlassfish comes with a braise order. Amazing, right? Such great value! I am dieting, and my younger child has a very small appetite, so one full dish per person feels like too much. So we ordered the small Bada Punggyeong Braise.

They set out the basic side dishes while leaving space for the cutlassfish. There were seasoned seaweed stems and bean sprouts, and just like that, a wholesome table was ready.

There was seasoned seaweed too. Why was it so delicious? I kept picking at it.

Whole grilled cutlassfish deboned by the staff
And finally, the whole grilled cutlassfish arrived! It was served whole on a long platter, and the presentation immediately caught my eye.

With one whole cutlassfish laid out lengthwise, it looked unmistakably Jeju even in photos.

A staff member removed the bones for us. With a quick swish-swish of the spoon, it revealed a whole heap of fish!

They deboned it so incredibly neatly that we could eat the grilled cutlassfish with ease. It was especially convenient for giving to the kids.

Braised cutlassfish with delicious radish and onion
The star, the Bada Punggyeong Braise, came generously filled in a stone pot. Cutlassfish and big pieces of radish were topped with green onion and sesame seeds.

Maybe because it was the small large-size portion, but no matter how much we scooped out, there was enough.

Is anyone else the type to eat the radish from a braise first? The fish is delicious, of course, but the radish underneath is the real kicker too.

I always make sure to eat the radish too. The pieces were large, so it was nice to alternate bites with the cutlassfish.

Eating both cutlassfish and mackerel with the sauce made one bowl of rice disappear so easily. Cutlassfish has its own charm, and mackerel has its own too.

And the thing I enjoyed even more than the radish that day was the onion!!!!!!!!

Wow, the sauce was truly sweet and spicy, and it had soaked right into the onion. It was so good.

What was really, really appealing was being able to enjoy braised cutlassfish and whole grilled cutlassfish together with one Bada Punggyeong Braise. If you are looking for great braised cutlassfish in Seongsan and want grilled fish too, I recommend Seongsan Bada Punggyeong. It would be great for lunch before visiting Seongsan Ilchulbong during the day, or for dinner like we did. It is such a good way to have braised and whole grilled cutlassfish at once! Oh, and of course, they have individual dishes too!
