Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch is an oven-roasted chicken restaurant on Dongtanbansong 3-gil in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. A family of four shared the signature new ganpung chicken (sweet and spicy sauced chicken) and the oven chicken: the ganpung chicken came in a tomato-and-chili sauce that was both sweet and hot, while the oven chicken was so well seasoned and juicy that no dipping sauce or pickled radish was missed. Fix Chicken Dongtan Central Park Branch is well worth a trip for anyone who likes clean-tasting oven-roasted chicken.

Songtan Jindaegwang Budae Jjigae Seongsu Branch is a Songtan-style budae jjigae (army stew) restaurant with old-school charm, right in front of Exit 1 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. After a snack tour of chapssaltteok (glutinous rice cakes) and salt bread, the whole family shared one pot of army stew on a weekend, with unlimited rice, a self-serve side dish counter and a Jin Ramen noodle add-on. The spicy broth and generous amount of ham made Songtan Jindaegwang a Seongsu army stew spot worth the trip.

Hangover tendon pho at a Dongtan Station restaurant: Mibundang

Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a pho (Vietnamese rice noodle soup) restaurant on the 1st floor of the Dongtan Station Richian building in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, and an easy spot for eating alone. After a 20-minute wait just past 1pm, the writer had tendon pho and brisket pho, lifting some noodles out of the bowl to mix with cilantro, onion strips and hoisin sauce for a second, bibim-style flavor. The broth tasted like galbitang (Korean beef short rib soup) and sat lightly on a stomach sore from too much drinking the night before, making it ideal hangover food.
