Daegu seafood restaurant near Moda Outlet: octopus jjim with two kids
In short
Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch is a Korean restaurant near Moda Outlet in Dalseo, Daegu, serving haemul-jjim (spicy braised seafood) and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and sundubu (soft tofu stew) in earthenware pots. For a family dinner with two kids, we ordered brisket soft tofu stew, a medium seafood jjim, pork cutlet and fried rice; the octopus was tender rather than chewy, and the seasoning was mild enough that even the children ate well. Sin Yeongung is a good seafood jjim spot for a family meal out with kids or a get-together over drinks.

The other evening I went with my family to Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch (신영웅청국장해물뚝배기 성서모다아울렛점), a well-known spot near Moda Outlet in Daegu. We went craving seafood jjim (steamed spicy seafood), and it turned out better than I expected, so I wanted to share it.
Seafood jjim places are often heavy on strong, spicy seasoning, but the food here was really clean-tasting.👍 The octopus wasn't tough at all, and my eldest ate almost the whole soft tofu stew by herself. Here's my review of this Moda Outlet restaurant in Daegu that even the kids loved.

Where do you park near Moda Outlet?
There's free parking for about 5 cars in front of the restaurant. When it's full, you can use the Moda Outlet public lot behind it, and they cover one hour.
As soon as we arrived, the tidy exterior and the string of international flags caught my eye. It looked good for family meals, company dinners or get-togethers. The location is easy to find, so getting there was no trouble.
Inside: a Korean restaurant with private rooms and solo seats
The interior was clean and neat overall, and the tables were spaced generously, so it was comfortable to eat with the family.
There are several private rooms too, which would work well for family gatherings or company dinners. There are even seats where you can have a bowl of ttukbaegi (earthenware pot stew) on your own.
What we ordered with the kids

You order by kiosk here :) Since we came with the kids, we ordered a good variety. Here's what we had this time.
- Brisket soft tofu stew (ttukbaegi)
- Seafood jjim, medium
- Pork cutlet only
- Extra rice
- Extra fried rice (2–3 people)
- Soju

After we ordered, the side dishes came out first. They were neat and went well with the food, and the seokbakji (radish kimchi) was especially delicious.
Can kids eat the brisket soft tofu stew?
The brisket soft tofu stew here isn't sharply spicy. It has a clean broth that kids can eat, and my eldest finished almost a whole bowl by herself. It was the first dish to arrive, and maybe because we were hungry, it looked extra tempting. Just seeing it bubbling hot, the delicious aroma hit right away.

I tried the broth first, and it was so easy on the palate that I kept going back for more. It was packed with brisket and soft tofu, so it was hearty and filling.
A full spoonful had loads of ingredients. The more I ate, the warmer I felt inside. Best of all, my eldest ate so well. She said it was delicious and almost finished the whole bowl by herself. Clearing the pot like that, it must have suited a kid's taste perfectly, haha. Both of our kids ate really well.👍
And of course we couldn't skip the pork cutlet we ordered for the kids. It was a plain cutlet, so the taste was simply true to the basics!! The kids said it was delicious and ate it along with the tofu stew.

Medium seafood jjim: is the octopus really tender?
The octopus in the medium seafood jjim is sliced by a staff member before it goes on the table. It was big, not chewy at all, and really tender. And here comes today's star dish at last! I gasped at how it looked the moment it landed on the table. Honestly, this is a dish you can't help pairing with soju, haha😂
The octopus stood out most, of course. It was huge, which surprised me, and eating it surprised me even more, haha. There was no rubbery chewiness at all, just really tender. It had a springy yet juicy texture, and it's like magic how I kept eating it together with the bean sprouts, haha.

I loved that the sauce wasn't overly spicy or harsh. It didn't taste artificial, and the clean style lets the natural flavor of the seafood come through, which I liked even more!! Exactly my taste...👍👍 And there was a lot of seafood in it too!!

Seafood jjim is a rice thief (so good you keep eating rice) and also the kind of snack that makes soju go down smoothly, haha. The atmosphere and the food were both good, so it was a really happy meal, haha.

Fried rice (2–3 people) to finish the seafood jjim
After finishing the seafood jjim, we ordered the fried rice (2–3 people) right away. Eating seafood jjim without the fried rice would feel wrong, haha. It was topped with plenty of seaweed flakes and sesame seeds, so it passed the looks test right away.

The kids said it was delicious and kept eating until they scraped the pan clean. I'd say this fried rice counts as a main dish, haha.

How was it as a family meal with kids?
If the food were bad, there'd be no empty bowls. From the brisket tofu stew to the seafood jjim, pork cutlet and fried rice, the kids ate well and everyone was satisfied.

The seafood jjim especially stood out for its clean seasoning, different from other places, and the octopus was really tender. The kids eat well and the adults can have a drink with it, so I recommend it for family meals, family gatherings and company dinners.😊
