Seoulsup dessert café with no Friday wait: fresh mango soufflé, 5to7

5to7 Seongsu Main Branch is a soufflé dessert café right next to Seoulsup in Seongsu, Seoul. The writer walked into 5to7 with no wait around 4–5pm on a Friday and ordered the fresh mango soufflé, a café latte and passion fruit tea. The big two-layer soufflé and well-ripened fresh mango melted in the mouth. Soufflé isn't a cheap dessert, but 5to7 Seongsu Main Branch delivered on both taste and forest-view atmosphere, and the writer would 100% go back.

Ramen shop in Eunpyeong for parents new to Japanese ramen: Oreno

Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong is a Japanese ramen shop with a chicken broth base on Bulgwangcheon-gil in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, serving just two ramen: tori paitan and karai paitan. The writer, a regular at the Anguk branch, visited Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong for the first time at 12:30 on a weekday with their parents, ordered one of each ramen, and the parents, who aren't used to Japanese ramen, enjoyed their meal. With no difference in taste between branches, friendly service and fast turnover, Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong is worth another visit for a Bulgwangcheon lunch or a solo meal.

Ikseon-dong noodle restaurant: summer cold udon & soba, Jemyeonso

Insadong Jemyeonso Annyeong Insadong Branch is a Japanese noodle restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Annyeong Insadong building in Jongno, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 6. On a scorching day, we ordered the cold udon tempura set, the cold soba set and croquettes at Insadong Jemyeonso. The meal brought icy, slushy broth and crisp shrimp and kabocha squash tempura, and rice refills are free when each person orders one dish. Insadong Jemyeonso is a great Anguk spot for beating the summer heat with chilled noodles.

Myeongdong jokbal: large garlic bossam for four, Miss Jokbal

Miss Jokbal Seoul Myeongdong Branch is a jokbal (braised pig trotters) and bossam restaurant in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Exit 5 of Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station. Four diners, including two adult men, ordered the large garlic bossam, steamed egg and flying fish roe rice balls, and kimchi kalguksu and salad arrived free without being ordered. The garlic sauce was sweet rather than spicy and the jokbal was the most tender the writer has had — her parents said it beat their neighborhood jokbal place.
