Date restaurant in Sangmu, Gwangju: pepperoni & hot sauce, Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch (부엌간 상무점) is a Western restaurant on Seogwangju-ro in Sangmu, Gwangju, styled like a vintage European hotel with decor inspired by the Titanic's banquet hall. After shopping nearby, the writer ordered Couple Set B: garden salad, abalone cream risotto, pepperoni pizza, and orange and grapefruit juice. The salty pepperoni pizza with hot sauce and the risotto that recalls buttery abalone porridge stood out most. Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a solid Sangmu date spot for both atmosphere and flavor.

Today I finally visited Bueokgan Sangmu Branch (부엌간 상무점), a Sangmu, Gwangju restaurant I'd wanted to try for ages! I'd heard the atmosphere was great, so I went with high expectations, and from the moody interior to the delicious food, I was satisfied with everything. It felt like a vintage classic hotel in Europe, and the food was good too, so I was in a great mood the whole meal.
I especially loved the abalone cream risotto, garden salad and pepperoni pizza, so I'm already 1000% planning to come back! If you're looking for a date spot with atmosphere or want some tasty Western food, pay attention >.< I'll walk you through the vibe, the menu and the parking info for Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, which I'd recommend as a Gwangju pasta restaurant. Let's go!

Where is Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, and what about parking and shopping?
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is at 25 Seogwangju-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju. It's open 11:00–22:00 with a break from 16:00 to 16:30. There's a private parking lot, you can use Mudeung Church's lot when it's full, and Naver reservations are available.

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch sits a little off the busy center of Sangmu. Since it isn't right in the middle of the crowds, you can enjoy your meal a bit more calmly, which I liked. There are also shops nearby like ABC-Mart, Uniqlo, Daiso and Topten, so it looks good for shopping before or after eating. (We went shopping, haha.)
And the important info for anyone coming by car: there's a private parking lot, so it's easy to visit, and if it's full you can reportedly use Mudeung Church. There may be a wait at peak times, so if you want a relaxed meal, booking through Naver seems like a good idea. When I look for a Gwangju pasta restaurant I check the location, parking and atmosphere carefully, and Bueokgan Sangmu Branch won me over on those too.

Exterior: a first impression full of European charm
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch felt upscale and moody from the outside. It felt less like an ordinary restaurant and more like a European-style café or restaurant. The vintage-yet-refined look is appealing, and my expectations were already up before we went in.
These days good food matters, but so does the atmosphere of the space, right? In that sense, I loved Bueokgan Sangmu Branch from the first impression. If you're looking for a Gwangju pasta restaurant with a special atmosphere, it's worth a look.

Interior inspired by the Titanic ballroom
The interior of Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is said to be modeled on the old-fashioned ballroom from the movie Titanic. I gasped the moment I walked in. Wow, the atmosphere here is really great!
The decor recalls a vintage classic hotel in Italy, with antique props placed here and there, so it was fun just looking around. Knowing it's modeled on the Titanic ballroom made it even more impressive >.<
It felt like a classic European hotel, so the meal felt a little special compared with usual. The space itself is stylish, great for photos, and really good as a date spot. It would also suit occasions where atmosphere matters, like a blind date.
It's a good place to visit when you want to eat in an upscale, moody space. But it isn't stiff at all; the mood was very comfortable!

There are also large group tables, so it looks fine for gatherings with friends or family meals. This interior is one of the reasons I'd recommend Bueokgan Sangmu Branch as a Gwangju pasta restaurant for anyone seeking a restaurant with great atmosphere.

Everywhere was so pretty that I kept looking around and taking photos. It's nice any day, but wouldn't it be perfect when you want that year-end mood, on a special day, or on a date~?
They even thoughtfully provide coat hangers, which I loved. The flowers look like real ones, and a place that uses fresh flowers catches the eye and feels even more upscale.

What's in Bueokgan's Couple Set B?
Couple Set B at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch comes with a garden salad, abalone cream risotto, a pepperoni pizza and two drinks. We chose orange juice and grapefruit juice.
Bueokgan has a wide range of Western dishes, from steak to pasta, salad and pizza. There were so many that we debated for a while, then ordered Couple Set B so we could try several things together.
- Garden salad
- Abalone cream risotto
- Pepperoni pizza
- Orange juice
- Grapefruit juice
I liked that the set lets you enjoy everything from salad to pizza and risotto. Sharing several dishes between two made the meal feel richer than eating just one thing. Let me introduce them one by one! (A sign said there's a pastry event if you save the place on Naver and write a receipt review, so ask if you're interested!)
They seem to have made their own wet wipes too, and every detail like this feels so upscale~

The dishes are finally here!

Don't they look so radiant?? They look delicious at a glance, T_T

Bueokgan's pepperoni pizza: even better with hot sauce?
The pepperoni pizza at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch was appealingly salty, and a little hot sauce added a spicy kick that made it even better. Personally, it was one of the most memorable dishes that day.
The pepperoni is packed on with no gaps, so it looked really tempting. The first bite matters with pizza, and the salty flavor hit right away, which suited my taste perfectly. Pizza these days can sometimes taste a bit bland, but Bueokgan's pepperoni pizza keeps its distinctive salty flavor, and I was happy with it.
The savory pepperoni and the pizza go so well together that I kept reaching for more. If you like salty pizza, I think you'll enjoy it. It was good plain, but with a little hot sauce the spiciness made it even tastier. You know that taste when you sprinkle hot sauce on pizza and it just clings to your mouth? It made me want another slice.

The homemade pickles served alongside were sweet and sour and matched the pizza well. The freshness of the pickles balanced the salty pizza, so they were nice to nibble between bites. If you usually love pizza loaded with pepperoni, definitely try it.

Fresh and crunchy: Bueokgan's garden salad
The garden salad at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch combines leafy greens including arugula with cherry tomatoes and grated cheese. I started with the garden salad to whet my appetite, and it looked so green and appetizing.
On the first bite, the vegetables were crunchy and fresh, which I liked. With several kinds of leaves the texture was good, and the brightness of the cherry tomatoes went well with the savory cheese. I don't usually eat raw vegetables much, but with the freshness of the cherry tomatoes, and eaten alongside rich dishes like pizza and cream risotto, the salad's lightness came through even more.
When you order Western food, adding a salad makes the meal feel cleaner, doesn't it? If you're looking for a Gwangju pasta restaurant where even the salad is good, I'd recommend Bueokgan Sangmu Branch!

Bueokgan's abalone cream risotto: too creamy?
The abalone cream risotto at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch wasn't heavy, so I could enjoy it to the end, and its savory taste reminded me of abalone porridge made with butter. Honestly, it was the dish I'd been looking forward to most that day.
I usually like cream risotto, but cream dishes can start out delicious and then feel heavy after a few bites, right? Bueokgan Sangmu Branch's abalone cream risotto was something I could enjoy right to the end, which made me really happy. The soft, savory cream plus the flavor of abalone gave it real depth.
From the first bite the savoriness spread through my mouth, and maybe because of the abalone the flavor was even better. Eating it, I suddenly thought of abalone porridge with butter. It's savory and soft like abalone porridge, yet you still get the rich taste of cream risotto, which is appealing. Above all, the cream didn't feel too heavy, so my spoon kept going.
I'd been looking forward to it, and it lived up to my expectations. If you like soft, savory risotto, I'd recommend the abalone cream risotto. It stood out most among that day's dishes, so I'd order it again next time. If you're searching for a Gwangju pasta restaurant that also does risotto well, take a look at the menu at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch.

Refreshing orange juice and grapefruit juice
For Couple Set B's drinks, we ordered orange juice and grapefruit juice. A sip between bites of the salty pepperoni pizza freshened my mouth, so they matched the meal well.
Even when the food is good, having a drink to cleanse your palate makes a meal more enjoyable, right? The zesty flavors of orange and grapefruit were nice with the food. They had a freshly squeezed fruit juice freshness, so they were great to sip throughout the meal.
Since we were eating cream risotto, pizza and salad, a refreshing drink fit even better. Adding drinks to the tasty food made the meal feel richer.

Why I recommend Bueokgan Sangmu Branch as a Sangmu date restaurant
What I liked most about Bueokgan Sangmu Branch was how well the atmosphere and the food worked together. It isn't just a place with a pretty interior; the food was satisfying too, which made it more memorable. Especially since the space recalls a vintage European hotel, it's a good pick when you want to eat in a slightly different atmosphere than usual.
Personally, I'd recommend it to these people.
- Anyone looking for a Western restaurant with great atmosphere in Sangmu, Gwangju
- Anyone who needs a date restaurant for a special day
- Anyone looking for a moody restaurant good for a blind date
- Anyone who needs a spacious place to eat with friends or family

When I look for a pasta restaurant in Sangmu, I care about the interior and atmosphere as well as the taste, and Bueokgan Sangmu Branch satisfied me on both. The parking was convenient, and there are shops nearby, so it's good for spending time before or after the meal. If you're planning a date course, a meal followed by shopping nearby seems like a good plan.
The atmosphere also suits special days like anniversaries or year-end. After this visit, I want to come once more at year-end. Next time I definitely want to try the pasta and soup I missed this time! A place where you can enjoy delicious food and a moody atmosphere together, and I recommend it!
