45,000-won sashimi for two, Gwangalli seafood restaurant Maenggu Pocha

Maenggu Pocha Gwang-an Main Branch is a retro-style seafood pub on Namcheonbada-ro 33beon-gil, right in front of the sea at Gwangalli in Suyeong, Busan. Two people shared the 45,000-won live fish sashimi spread — red croaker, flounder and milchi mullet, plus spicy fish stew, sushi, lettuce wraps and heaping bowls of rice — and there was far more food than two could finish. For fresh sashimi in Gwangalli without the high prices, Maenggu Pocha Gwang-an Main Branch is an easy recommendation.

Namcheon-dong hanwoo BBQ date set, 99,000 won for 400g: Yong Hanu

Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant in Namcheon-dong, Suyeong, Busan. On a date near Gwangalli Beach, a same-day reservation got us the han-set at 99,000 won with 400g of sirloin and rib meat, served with Maldon salt and beef radish soup in partitioned seats, plus a fridge just for soju. Rock-paper-scissors free beer at a Gwangalli izakaya: Ganppa Beer

Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a standing-bar izakaya in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan, pouring Sapporo draft for 8,900 won and Ebisu draft for 11,900 won. On a weeknight visit around 10pm, two Sapporo drafts came with crispy akkasomyeon (dried squid strips) at 5,900 won and a real honey yogurt drink at 7,900 won, and first place in the rock-paper-scissors event held when a keg runs dry won a free beer. No wait to get in and easily worth an hour, Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 works best as a second-round bar in Gwangalli.
