Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch (워낭명가 대전도안점) is a butcher restaurant in Doan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, serving 1++ grade hanwoo (Korean beef) from cows. On a Monday evening we took my parents to a private room at Worang Myeongga, grilled special cuts over charcoal, including ribeye with the ribeye cap (saeusal) attached and boneless short rib, then finished with naengmyeon (cold noodles) and fruit and ice cream from the self-serve bar. Hanwoo wrapped in myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves) and pineapple as good as a department store's stood out, making Worang Myeongga a great hanwoo spot for a special occasion with parents.

As the first meal of a 3-day, 2-night Haeundae trip, the writer walked in at 1:30 pm on a Friday with no wait and ordered the A set. Even as a pork belly fan, the writer was won over by the thick, tender aged pork neck, and ordering at lunch came with free dolsot bibimbap and doenjang stew. Gwang-anmok Haeundae Branch suits anyone in Haeundae who wants a hearty lunch of pork neck grilled for them.

Dalmaji-gil Western restaurant for 3: set for 2 + gnocchi, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch (부엌간 해운대점) is a European-style Western restaurant on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan, with a Chinese restaurant on the 1st floor and a European dining room on the 2nd floor of the same building. Three of us, traveling without a car until a cousin gave us a ride, ordered the 2-person set plus truffle mushroom cream gnocchi and shared a napa cabbage Caesar salad, pastry-topped pumpkin soup, basil margherita pizza and lasagna. The food at Bueokgan Haeundae Branch was nothing special, but the atmosphere was, and the basement parking lot is narrow.

Blue Ribbon Italian restaurant in Sejong for 4 old friends: Olivus

Olivus Compagno Sejong Boram Branch is an Italian restaurant on Sicheong-daero in Boram-dong, Sejong, that has earned a Blue Ribbon two years in a row. Four of the writer's oldest elementary school friends booked a Sunday 1:30 pm table and shared flat iron steak cream risotto, vongole, Tuumba pasta and Korean new potato and sweet pumpkin gnocchi. The friends ordered no drinks and scraped all four plates clean, so the dish lineup at Olivus Compagno was a clear hit.
