Yeonsinnae katsu restaurant: loin katsu and cold udon set for two

In short

Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant on Yeonseo-ro 28-gil near Yeonsinnae Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. Visiting as a pair, the writer ordered the set with two loin katsu and one cold udon, and found the coating crisp with juicy meat inside, plus rice and salad for a filling meal. Two loin katsu and udon proved a little too much food for two people at Katsu Monster.

I was craving something delicious in Yeonsinnae, so I looked up good tonkatsu spots in the area and ended up at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae!

I'm generally a fan of tonkatsu, so it's hard for me to just walk past a place with well-fried, crispy cutlets haha. A place like this, you've got to go in and try it!!

What to order for two: the 2 loin katsu + 1 cold udon set

This time at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae, I went with the set menu that lets you have loin katsu and cold udon together. What I ordered was the 2 loin katsu + 1 cold udon set. The portion worked fine for two of us, and the combination of tonkatsu with cold udon was a great pairing.

The moment the food arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the tonkatsu.

How crisp is the coating on Katsu Monster's loin katsu?

The golden-brown coating looked crispy just from the sight of it. Yeonsinnae tonkatsu spot!! Katsu Monster!!

And when I actually tried it, the outside was crisp while the meat inside stayed juicy — the texture was great.

Tonkatsu really does taste best fresh out of the fryer, doesn't it. Taking a bite while it's still warm, the coating makes that crisp sound and gives way to tender meat underneath — that combo is pretty delicious.

With tonkatsu, if the coating's too thick it can feel like you're eating more batter than meat, and if it's too thin the crunch falls flat. The loin katsu at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae hit that just-right crispy style I like. Why is tonkatsu so delicious? (๑❛ڡ❛๑)☆

It's just meat coated in batter and fried in oil, and yet that crunchy sound alone can make you happy. Tonkatsu eaten when you're hungry is basically cheating. Pick up a piece with your chopsticks, dip it lightly in sauce, and eat it with a spoonful of rice — in that moment it feels like the most perfect meal in the world haha.

The Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae set doesn't just come with tonkatsu — rice and salad are served alongside it, which made it good as a full meal.

Salad and a bowl of rice served with the set

I'm someone who feels a little let down if rice is missing when I eat tonkatsu, so having rice come with it was great.

Eating the loin katsu with cold udon

Pairing it with cold udon made it even better hahaha. If tonkatsu is warm and crispy, cold udon is cool and clean-tasting, so they complemented each other nicely.

A bite or two of tonkatsu, then a bite of cold udon — that combo is the best!!! Katsu Monster, good at both tonkatsu and udon in Yeonsinnae.

So if you're visiting as a pair, instead of ordering multiple tonkatsu only, adding one cold udon like this seems like a good idea too.

Especially on a hot day, cold udon is a real treat!!! For the two of us, though, udon plus two whole tonkatsu ended up being a bit much haha.

Is Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch worth it for tonkatsu?

This time I only tried the loin katsu and cold udon, but now I'm curious about the other menu items too. Above all, what stuck with me most from this visit was the freshly-fried, crispy texture of the tonkatsu. If you're craving tonkatsu in Yeonsinnae and want something properly crispy without feeling too heavy, this could be a good pick.

The tonkatsu set near the end of the meal

If you're like me and believe tonkatsu absolutely has to be crispy, I think you'd be pretty satisfied haha. If you're looking for a good tonkatsu spot in Yeonsinnae, give Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae a try.

Bottom line: tonkatsu tastes best crispy, freshly fried tonkatsu tastes even better, and good tonkatsu with rice is just perfect haha. If you're after a filling, delicious meal in Yeonsinnae, I recommend this Yeonsinnae tonkatsu spot, Katsu Monster.
