Half-and-half garlic and hwangso gopchang in Mokdong, Seoul: Omokgyo
In short
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a beef gopchang (small intestine) restaurant in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Omokgyo Station. On an after-work weekday visit, one order each of traditional handmade garlic gopchang (28,900 won) and hwangso gopchang (27,900 won) were grilled side by side and eaten with scallion kimchi, corn salad and a soju-beer mix. The garlic version and the original taste completely different, so ordering both half-and-half is the way to go at Omokgyo Gopchang.

Hi everyone~~~ I suddenly got a craving for gopchang (beef intestine), so straight after work I headed to Omokgyo Gopchang haha. They have a handmade garlic gopchang with whole garlic cloves tucked inside — I went straight there and here's my honest review!

Omokgyo Gopchang is close to the Anyangcheon walking trail and just a 3-minute walk from Omokgyo Station, so it was super accessible.
It stands out well, so once you turn off the main street into the alley, it's easy to spot.
Inside Omokgyo Gopchang on a weekday evening

There were plenty of tables inside, and since I came straight after work on a weekday, there were already lots of office workers having gopchang with soju hahahaha. I guess that's how everyone unwinds? I was also there for a last-minute soju-beer date with N.
What's on the menu at Omokgyo Gopchang, and what it costs

There were plenty of set menus on the board, and of course you can order à la carte too — turns out Omokgyo Gopchang is famous for its traditional handmade garlic gopchang? Then I had to try it ><
- Traditional handmade garlic gopchang: 28,900
- Hwangso gopchang (original): 27,900
- Soju: 5,000
- Beer: 5,000
I wanted to compare it with the regular gopchang, so I ordered one of each.

Nice touch — they set a vitamin at every seat. Popped it right in my mouth ^^ And the water came in bottled form, which I love~~~

They also had quite a few events running. The prizes looked decent, so go ahead and enter!
Side dishes: sundubu-jjigae, scallion kimchi and corn salad

Even before we ordered, they quickly set the table with banchan (side dishes), and it was already full. Starting with sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew), good to eat before the main dish arrives, plus a bunch of banchan — the gopchang wasn't even here yet and my appetite was already sky-high~

Three sauces came out — shiitake wasabi sauce, spicy special sauce, and sesame oil sauce — and the spicy special sauce was totally my type hahaha. Cheonyeop (beef tripe) also came out, but I don't eat it so I passed haha.

And then there was scallion kimchi made in-house, chive salad, corn salad, and pickled onions as the basic banchan. Scallion kimchi's been so good lately, I love it — and they had it here too, happy me.
And N and I... we're corn salad fiends, we really love it, so we refilled it too.

Pre-grilled gopchang, the fire show and how to grill it
They moved the bubbling sundubu-jjigae aside, and finally the main event — the gopchang — arrived!!! It came pre-grilled, so just 3 more minutes on the fire and it was ready. There was also a free serving of yeomtong (beef heart) and various vegetables to eat alongside.
The owner suddenly did a fire show, which startled both N and me hahahaha. The staff here were genuinely kind and looked after us well. That kind of feel-good kindness is the best~~~
She told us just to flip it quickly while it cooks, so N kept flipping non-stop, and maybe because the fire was strong, the gopchang cooked really fast. Getting to eat it quickly was actually a plus.

Grilling the scallion kimchi together with the gopchang is a must, so please try it! Beef gopchang seems like something you need to keep restocking regularly. So, so appetizing ㅠㅠ
Garlic gopchang vs hwangso gopchang: what's the difference?
This is the handmade garlic gopchang, with whole garlic cloves tucked inside. Apparently they insert them one by one by hand... sounds exhausting, but the person eating it is pure happiness ><
Everyone knows garlic and beef fat together can't possibly taste bad, right??? Combine the savory beef gopchang with garlic aroma and it's just insanely good ㅜ

The classic hwangso gopchang was also packed full of gop (fat) and had a nutty, savory flavor — the original was delicious in its own original way. Highly recommend ordering half-and-half! Their charms are different, so it was great to alternate between the two.

Ugh, looking at the photos again while writing this post is driving me crazy. The best combo was gopchang with scallion kimchi and the spicy special sauce — never got tired of it, just kept going. It was hot so N and I chugged soju-beer nonstop and got tipsy.

This is the refilled corn salad — they seem to be generous with ingredients, no holding back. Good taste, good kindness!!!
If you're looking for a good gopchang restaurant near Omokgyo Station, how about Omokgyo Gopchang? I recommend it as a great spot for a soju after work~
